Vince Young, It's Time the Titans Cut Their Losses

David CoatesMar 6, 2009

I like No. 10.

I have liked him since his college days at UT-Austin under Mack Brown. But the time has come for us to say goodbye.

His last full year of stats was 2007, when he threw nine touchdowns, and 17 picks in 15 games. Granted, he did, sort of get a raw deal, coming to Tennessee and having to work under then offensive coordinator Norm Chow.

But still, since his rookie year, what has he done?

The answer: Nothing remarkable.

Unless he starts chiming in, he should be on the trading block. I understand that the pressure, the fans, the "injuries", and the $7 million per year paycheck can be hard to overcome, but seriously, he isn't performing.

As much as the Titans want him to be, he isn't Steve McNair. When McNair left, he left a void for that "do anything to win" mentality—something the Titans didn't have until they found it last year with the comeback of Kerry Collins.

The underrated guy who, in case you don't remember, was a first round pick (from 1995) out of Penn State and is currently in his 16th NFL Season.

Don't get me wrong, I like Young. I just think it is time for him to go. Much like Chad Pennington and the Jets, sometimes it just works better that way.

A fresh start, something the fans and the Titans' coaching staff can't give Young.

Here's the rub, what is his value? At most, we could get draft picks.

That's it.

Maybe Dan Orlovsky or Brooks Bollinger. But not much else.

So not only do we need him to play better so we can have a winning quarter in the future, we need him to play better so we can get something back out of the $21 million or so dollars we have paid him.

Sorry Young, but it is time to cut our losses and move on.
