The Chicago Bears Cannot Draft What They Truly Need: Attitude
My greatest regret in life: not being born a month earlier.
By not pushing myself out of the womb prematurely, I missed out on being a witness to the single most significant moment in Bears history—Super Bowl XX.
Due to the fact I was still munchin' on umbilical fluid, I did not get to see the Bears roll over the Patriots in one of the most lopsided Super Bowls in NFL history.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
How did they win? Defense, coaching, and Walter Payton (although the box score will disagree with me on this one). This team had it all. It was no surprise to anybody faithful to the former Decatur Staleys that this team brought home the Lombardi.
They even made a rap video promising the world a championship months before they were even game planning for New England.
The one underlying aspect this team had over all other teams (in all other sports as well) was their attitude. Swagger or heart, if you will.
Sure, they had great players and legendary Mr. Mike Ditka behind the wheel. But it was the never say die mindset, the slightly cocky, half flamboyant, you cannot beat us attitude that separated this team from the world.
Today it is over 20 years past the exuberant high fives and Roos headbands. Our team still claims to be a hard-nosed, defensively driven, workhorse of a team, but maybe my HD screen is playing tricks on me, because I haven't seen that in quite some time.
Teams used to fear us.
Brian Urlacher was a monster—not a blocking dummy. Our defense was brutal. 2005 against the Packers at Soldier's, Mike Brown absolutely tattooed Brett Favre. Favre, who has been sacked more times than any quarterback, ever, called that hit one of the hardest he has ever felt.
How 'bout Urlacher laughing as Nathan Vasher takes back a missed field goal against the Niners? When is the last time Tommie Harris pulled off one of his classic fat man dances?
That is the Bear team I love.
So as the draft approaches, and the whole sporting world is buzzing about free-agency and who is the next late round pick to turn into a Pro Bowler, I am looking for more than a few new players.
We just locked up our whole defense—Matt Forte WILL avoid a sophomore slump, we have no quarterback controversy, and with a few minor tweaks, we could be the front runner to win our division.
So outside of Michael Crabtree, I am not looking for anybody in particular. I am looking for an attitude adjustment.
Can we get Jay-Z to inject us with a little swagger? We need Michael Phelps to bottle up some of his desire (hold the THC of course Michael), and I want Ditka to give us the finger.
This team will not be successful until a serious attitude adjustment takes place.
There is not an easy answer to how this can happen. First day of practice, if I was coach, would be spent starring into a mirror.
