Allen Iverson: The Answer Revealed
The 2008-09 season was in its infancy when the unthinkable happened: Joe Dumars traded Chauncey Billups for the mercurial Allen Iverson. It was a shock to my system, much less to the the rest of Mr. Big Shot's teammates.
There were stories on the internet of Billups crying over the phone with Prince and Hamilton. It was obvious from the start that the Iverson brand did not mesh well with the other veterans.
Iverson did his usual thing of dominating the ball and missed scoring opportunities for his teammates. To make it worse Richard Hamilton was asked to come off the bench and let Iverson remain a starter.
For the first time in over five years the Pistons were in danger of being on the outside of the Eastern conference playoff race. Everyone knew the Iverson experiment was beginning to look like a failure.
Hamilton didn't like it but he did it for the good of the team. Now Iverson is hurt and Detroit has gone on a three-game winning streak with Hamilton back in the lineup. It looks like DEETRIIOT BAASSKETTBAALL is back.
Everyone is holding their breath to see how Iverson will react to what he would think of as a demotion.
Hold on, folks!
What if Joe talked to Iverson privately about coming off the bench. What if this injury was the perfect opportunity to take advantage of his absence.
Remember Dumars worked with another diva guard by the name of Isiah Thomas. He of all people would know how to handle such a massive ego. Now Iverson has to practice (of course practice is another thing with Iverson) what he preaches.
If he truly wants to fit in and just win, he will accept this move. On the other hand, you never know with the Answer.
The question is will the Pistons make some noise in the playoffs with Hamilton in the starting lineup?
