A-Rod Met With MLB, So Are Steroids Behind Him?

Bronx Baseball DailyMar 3, 2009

Obviously we all know that, for at least the next nine years, Alex Rodriguez is going to be a Yankee, and during that entire time, he will be The Face of Steroids, recently taking the title away from Barry Bonds

But since he met with MLB this past Sunday to discuss his drug use, can he put these big steroid discussions behind him and just play baseball?

I think so.

He’s already answered to everyone he has to answer to off the field: Peter Gammons, the New York media, and MLB. So now he only has to answer to the fans on the field, right?

Well, it really does depend on what MLB does from here on out. They called him “cooperative” when they met with him, but that doesn’t mean they won’t want a follow-up meeting. They had no other comment.

Rodriguez didn’t say much about the meeting, either.

“It’s really good to get yesterday behind me—another one of the big steps,” Rodriguez said. “For me, now the focus is the WBC.”

If he is done with all the off-the-field stuff, I think Arod can handle the rest.

As long as his numbers weren’t largely the result of steroids, he should go back to life as normal—or as normal as it gets for Alex Rodriguez.

Sure, he’s going to get booed everywhere he goes, but when didn’t he?

From the day he signed that $250 million contract with the Texas Rangers until the morning when his name was officially connected to steroids, he’s always been a favorite target of boo-birds.

Nothing has changed, so hopefully nothing will change in the batter’s box.
