New York Giants: Could Houshmandzadeh Signing Bring Back Plaxico?

Steve ChottMar 2, 2009

Earlier today, the top free agent wide receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh was signed by the Seattle Seahawks, causing a lot of teams to re-think their signings and throw more offers to different guys.

There are still some good guys out there though. But, would any of them help as much as Plaxico Burress?

Us Giants fans and those Patriots fans all remember Plaxico take a step, fake out Ellis Hobbs and catch the fade from Eli for the game with 35 seconds left in the Super Bowl. But, as we all have seen since, Plaxico has gone downhill.

He signed a contract extension and then missed a meeting and was suspended by the team for one game.

Then he missed another meeting and was taken out for the first quarter of a contest. And finally, the breaking point at the end was when Plaxico Burress shot himself in the thigh, ending his season and possibly his Giants' career.

But my question is, can the Giants succeed without him?

Without Plaxico they would be a decent team, but Plaxico is a big part of this team. He makes everyone around him better.

He gets more attention from defenses, and that helps out guys like Brandon Jacobs.

He gets double teamed, which helps out his other receivers, and his height and great hands makes him a reliable go-to guy for Eli Manning.

But let's say that the Giants do not sign a receiver and go on without Plaxico. Their top receiver would be Domenick Hixon, who played well when Plaxico was out but has nowhere near the talent Plaxico has.

It also seemed that Hixon wasn't ready for the spotlight when Plaxico was gone.

So do the Giants need to bring Plaxico back now that TJ is gone?

The answer to that would be yes, because without him the Giants are not NFC East winners and probably a 9-7 team.
