Nate Washington: No. 1 Receiver for the Titans?

Tanner ThomsMar 2, 2009

Have you ever heard of Nate Washington? Perhaps you haven't.

He may not be a household name right now, but he has a chance to become one.

The Titans agreed to terms with the 25-year-old former Pittsburgh Steeler today. He caught a career-high 40 passes during the 2008 season and also had over 600 yards and scored three TD.

Tennessee is not known for signing or drafting big-name receivers, so this move is surprising to some.

The question is: Can Nate Washington be an elite receiver with the Titans?

He's young and has great speed and hands. He didn't get much playing time behind Heath Miller, Hines Ward, and Santonio Holmes in Pittsburgh. But what damage could he have done if he played more often?

Although Pittsburgh won the Super Bowl, Nate made the right decision: to go to a team that needs a top receiver that can create plays.

You should feel lucky, Titans, to have signed the man. When your top receiver is Justin Gage, that must tell you how bad your receivers really are.

Am I crazy to think that he could be great withย a quarterback like Kerry Collins throwing him the ball? Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, but I love to take risks. I have faith in this guy.

This move might not lead them to the Super Bowl, but it's a step in the right direction.

On a side note, the Titans also signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Jovan Haye. He will likely start in place of Albert Haynesworth. The Titans must continue to make these moves if they want to remain on top of the AFC.

Inย my opinion, the Titans should sign another young receiver with potential. Most teams don't win Super Bowls with average receivers.

I felt the need to write this article to spark interest. The Titans aren't a team I usually follow, though I did cry when Kevin Dyson couldn't quite reach the end zone in Super Bowl 34.

But hey, I used to cry when I couldn't watch the cartoon "Rugrats."
