Darrelle Revis Injury: Updates on Jets CB's Head Injury
Revis Island is in danger of temporarily falling off the map.
Darrelle Revis exited the New York Jets’ Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills after receiving a blow to the head. According to CBS Sports, a teammate kicked him by accident on a tackle attempt.
That incidental collision put an impact player at risk, one who had recorded an interception earlier in the contest.

UPDATE: Sunday, Sept. 23 at 11:46 a.m. ET
It seems more and more likely that Darrelle Revis' prophecy is coming true. The Jets have released their inactives for Sunday's game against Miami, and the cornerback's name isn't on it.
Not that the Dolphins boast the league's most intimidating pass offense, but losing a defensive back of Revis' caliber would make any quarterback start throwing with abandon. Ryan Tannehill's job just got a lot harder.

"

Update: Thursday, Sept. 13 at 3:10 p.m. ET
Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports Revis will leave the decision about whether or not he will play against the Steelers to the doctors. The elite cornerback said he didn't feel right after the concussion first occurred last week.
"Revis says he had headache, in "a fog" after blow to head. Says he feels good, not sure if he will play, up to docs. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) September 13, 2012"
Neither the Jets or Revis are willing to make any statements about his playing status quite yet. The fact he's feeling better is a positive sign, but it won't be until the doctors give him a complete exam that the final word will be released. Stay tuned.

Update: Thursday, Sept. 13 at 12:25 p.m. ET
Brian Costello of the New York Post reports Revis still hasn't been cleared to practice after the concussion he suffered in the opener. Rex Ryan says a decision will be made before the team travels to face the Steelers.
""I would think you wouldn't put him on a plane to make the game-time decision," Ryan said. "I would think by Saturday we'll certainly have an answer."
"
Not having Revis would obviously be a huge blow for a Jets defense that allowed 28 points to the Bills in Week 1. But with head injuries being taken more seriously than ever in the NFL, it shouldn't surprise anybody if Revis sits out.

UPDATE: Thursday, September 13 at 11:15 a.m. ET by Adam Wells
With the Jets heading to Pittsburgh this weekend, Revis' status is looking more and more gray as we approach Sunday.
But the team is not going to take any chances with Revis, as head coach Rex Ryan told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that his star cornerback will not be on the field if there are any doubts about his health.
"Rex on Revis' availabilty: "If he's not 100 percent, Darrelle won't play. It's as simple as that" #nyj
— Manish Mehta(@MMehtaNYDN) September 13, 2012"
With Mike Wallace lining up for the Steelers, the Jets need their best defensive playmaker on the field.
We shall see how he progresses over the next three days.

Rex Ryan has announced that Darrelle Revis has been given a thumbs up to participate in physical activity but will still not practice yet, according to the New York Jets' official Twitter account on Wednesday morning:
"#RL Rex Ryan says CB Darrelle Revis (concussion) cleared to resume physical activity by Jets trainers but will not practice today.
— New York Jets (@nyjets) September 12, 2012"

The Jets will need to proceed with caution with star cornerback Darrelle Revis, who reportedly suffered a mild concussion, according to the New York Post's Brian Costello:
"Revis has a mild concussion, Jets announce #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) September 10, 2012"
New York Daily News' Manish Mehta followed up Costello by reporting that the Jets will defer to the doctors regarding Revis' Week 2 status:
"Rex Ryan says he will lean on trainers/doctors to determine if Revis will play vs Steelers #nyj

UPDATE: Sunday, September 9 at 5:54 p.m. ET by Ian Hanford
New York Daily News reporter Manish Mehta should have Jets fans resting a bit easier:
"I've been told that Darrelle Revis is fine and did not suffer a concussion after getting kicked in head by Bart Scott. Good news for #NYJ
— Manish Mehta(@MMehtaNYDN) September 9, 2012"
This is a major relief. Revis' health is paramount to the Jets' success, and they couldn't afford to lose him for any length of time.
We will have to see the specific time frame, but this sounds much better than it did initially.
---END OF UPDATE---
Following the injury, Rich Cimini of ESPN tweeted news that should make Jets fans nervous:
"Revis shaken up and out. Ryan grimaced when trainer gave him update. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) September 9, 2012"
If Rex Ryan’s facial expressions hold any weight, Revis’ injury could keep him out of action in the coming weeks. Cimini also reported that what could be a concussion ruled out a Revis return:
"Revis to locker room. Was standing and talking to docs. Makes me think they were checking for possible concussion. But I'm not a doctor.
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) September 9, 2012"
Losing Revis for any extended period of time would be disastrous for the Jets. Over the course of its next six games, New York faces matchups with the Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans and New England Patriots.
That’s absolutely brutal.
Revis is the best cornerback in the NFL. While the Jets looked dominant against the Bills, it’s difficult to imagine them being the same animal if they lose that much talent. Hopefully for their sake, his “concussion” is minor, if not nonexistent.
