Pistons Finally Get Win Over Celtics
It took four tries, but the Detroit Pistons finally picked up their first win over the Boston Celtics this season. The game was a close one throughout, but the Pistons managed to pull out a win over the defending champions 105-95.
The Detroit team on the floor today seemed to be the winning team of old, as they were led by guard Richard Hamilton's 25 points, nine assists and six rebounds.
The win is the Pistons' second straight without Allen Iverson, who is back in Detroit with a back injury. Boston was playing without their star guard Kevin Garnett.
Friday night's win in Orlando snapped a eight-game losing streak for the Pistons and marked the return of guard Richard Hamilton to the lineup. In both wins, the team seemed to have gotten rid of all of the chemistry problems that have plagued them since Iverson joined the team.
Coach Curry has stated that when Iverson does return he will take Hamilton's place on the bench. The two tough road victories over two of the top teams in the NBA should go a long way to restoring some of the confidence the Pistons have been lacking over the last couple of months.
The Pistons took control of the game early, starting off on a 11-2 run. But Boston went on a 7-0 run at the end of the first after Rasheed Wallace picked up his 15th technical foul. He is now one shy of a league suspension.
The game went back and forth in the second, but the Pistons had the lead at the half. Detroit came out cold in the third quarter, allowing Boston to go on a 12-0 run, but got back into the game with their strong defense. They entered the fourth quarter up 77-70 and maintained the lead for the win.
The Pistons were strong on both ends of the floor and saw some good bench production. Both Will Bynum and Walter Hermann helping keep the team in the game during Boston's run in the second.
The win puts the team back at .500 and keeps them in the race for the final playoff spot in the East.
