Louisville Basketball: Curtain Call for Four Cardinals
Wednesday night, March 4 will be the last time Cardinals fans will get to see seniors Terrance Williams, Andre McGee, and Will Scott perform in Freedom Hall. More than likely, it will also be the last night we will see junior Earl Clark, as he looks to move on to the NBA.
Senior nights are usually emotional farewells, and this one will be no different.
Will Scott, a transfer from Cornell, has proven to be a deadly three point shooter, along with being the only Rhodes Scholar to have played for the Cards. Playing time has diminished to spot appearances this year, but his sweet shot will long be remembered.
Dre McGee, the little 5'7" guard, has developed into a crowd favorite with his hounding defense and ability to fill in whatever role Pitino or the team needs for that night. His unselfish leadership will be greatly missed. Hopefully, we will see him back as a graduate assistant on Pitino's staff.
TWill, as he is fondly called, will be missed by all. His athletic ability and endearing personality, both on and off the floor have made him one of the all time favorite Cardinals. He stays under the radar in regards to being mentioned for POY in the BE, but coach Pitino calls TWill the best all around player in the Big East.
He has greatly improved his three point shooting, and creates off the dribble as well as anyone. He leads the team in assists and rebounds. He does everything, and does it without the national recognition he deserves.
Earl Clark will more than likely move on to the NBA after the season. Last year, he declared immediately after the loss to North Carolina in the Final Eight, and left school for several weeks. As other underclassmen declared, Earl saw his stock drop in the draft, and cooler heads prevailed as he returned to school and met with Coach Pitino, who convinced him he needed to stay at least one more year.
NBA scouts say he has a lot of potential, meaning he still has things he needs to work on, like ball handling. Earl will be missed next year, and we wish him the best.
Cardinals fans will miss seeing those spectacular TWill dunks and those floor burns from Dre Mcgee diving for a loose ball. We will miss the athletic ability of Earl Clark, and wish that he would change his mind once more and return for his senior season.
So long TWill, Dre, Will, and Earl. Thanks for the memories, and for keeping Cardinal basketball at the highest level in the land.
