Little League World Series 2012 Results: Brock Myers Shined in Lopsided Loss
It's difficult to find a silver lining in a 12-2 beatdown, but Goodlettsville, TN can look at Brock Myers as a glimmer of light in Sunday's cloud.
As a team, they were no match for the Japanese squad from Kitasuna, but Myers proved he belonged on the same field with Kitasuna's stud pitcher Kotaro Kiyomiya.
He tallied his team's first hit of the game in the fourth inning, and it was no scratch single. He belted a home run off Kiyomiya to bust up the no-hitter and the shutout.
It was his fifth home run in five games at the Little League World Series, and that is something that only three little leaguers have ever done.
The other two individuals on that list aren't a couple of non-descript players that were never heard from in baseball again, either.
Myers joined Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski and Texas Rangers catcher Mike Napoli as the only players to pull the five-in-five feat.
Myers probably isn't in the mindset to enjoy what he accomplished just yet. However, in a few weeks, he'll look back and realise he must be pretty good at this game.
The kids from Tennessee gave a valiant effort, especially after the thrilling win they enjoyed on Saturday, but they ran into a buzzsaw on Sunday.
They should still be proud of what they accomplished—and that goes double for Myers.
