Tennessee vs. Japan: Little League World Series Championship Is Perfect Matchup
Tennessee has defeated California and will now take on Japan in the Little League World Series Championship game on Sunday in what will be a perfect matchup.
On one side, Tennessee is a great team that will bring the bats to every game they play in, and that's abundantly clear by looking at their road to the championship.
In four games, Tennessee has scored a combined total of 49 runs, 24 of which were scored in the United States final against California, one of the better teams in the tournament.
On their roster, Tennessee has eight hitters with an average of .400 or higher, and five of them are above .500. As far as easy outs in their lineup is concerned, there are next to none.
The U.S. representatives have also belted 12 homers and worked 13 walks in those four games. A nice balance of power and patience is what makes Tennessee a tough team to pitch to.
On the other side, Japan can flat out pitch.
Japan has five pitchers on their roster who have yet to allow a run. In fact, the entire Japanese pitching staff has allowed only two earned runs, both of which were charged to just one pitcher.
This team can also miss some bats as proven by the 50 strikeouts notched by Japanese pitching in only four games.
But don't expect waiting these pitchers out to work. Japan has only surrendered four walks in 27 innings pitched during the LLWS, so base runners will always be at a premium.
The LLWS Championship Game will have the best of both worlds on full display. Tennessee will bring elite hitting while Japan will bring elite pitching.
Normally, great pitching beats great hitting every time, but in this case, we'll just have to wait and see if that holds true on Sunday.
