Tennessee vs. California: Players to Watch in LLWS US Championship Game
The Little League World Series determines the U.S. champion on August 24 in what is sure to be a dramatic game as Tennessee takes on California for the right to represent the U.S. in the championship game.
The Little League World Series has provided us with a chance to watch some phenomenal baseball players throughout the years. Notable alumni include the likes of Cal Ripken Jr., Jason Bay, Nolan Ryan and Gary Sheffield, so we could very well be watching some future Major League players when these kids take the field.
Obviously both teams have experienced success in their runs to this semifinal game, so both rosters are filled with talented kids. Here are the kids to keep an eye on in this crucial tournament game.
Bradley Smith, California
California has made it this far in the tournament due to a steady stream of runs in every game, and they have Bradley Smith to thank for a lot of that.
Smith has consistently been a threat at the plate and leads all U.S. teams in the tournament with a batting average of .643. Smith's surge has been a pleasant surprise for West's representative as he hit a meager .235 during the qualifying rounds.
If Smith can continue his hot hitting, it will give California a big boost knowing they have a guy who can get on base consistently.
The 6'3" Smith can also contribute as a pitcher. He has a 2.48 ERA in 9.2 innings pitched in the tournament.
Brock Myers, Tennessee
If Tennessee finds themselves in a slugfest with California in their rematch, they will need a nice showing from Brock Myers to compete.
The shortstop/pitcher leads all U.S. teams with three home runs in the tournament and even went yard against California when the two teams met during pool play.
Myers has been solid on the mound too, racking up 11 strikeouts throughout the tournament while posting a 3.46 ERA. If Tennessee wants to repeat their success against California in the championship game, they'll need more clutch hitting from Myers.
Hance Smith, California
Perhaps the biggest star in this game, Hance Smith should play a huge role in this championship.
Smith leads the entire U.S. tournament with 10 RBI and has been absolutely clutch at the plate. His .432 average is a tribute to his abilities as a batter and he's coming off of a red-hot 3-for-3 performance against Texas.
If Smith plays as well as he did against Texas, he could steal the show in this game and give his team a berth in the Little League World Series Championship game against the international bracket winner.
