Little League World Series 2012 Results: Power Ranking Loser Bracket Survivors
The first day of losers' bracket play at the Little League World Series revealed there were some teams capable of going on a run to the championship lurking on that side of the bracket.
The teams representing New England, the Caribbean, Mexico and the Mid-Atlantic were all successful, and all looked good in victory. In fact, three of these games ended prior to the sixth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Check out all the scores from yesterday, and then we'll get into the power rankings.
Day 3 Scores
New England (Fairfield, Conn.) 12, Midwest (Kearney, Nebraska) 0
Caribbean (Curacao) 14, Europe (Germany) 2
Mexico (Nuevo Laredo) 12, MAE (Uganda) 0
Mid-Atlantic (Parsippany, N.J.) 10, Northwest (Gresham, Oregon) 4
Losers' Bracket Power Rankings
4. Mid-Atlantic
The squad from Parsinppany, N.J. was the lone team to not win its Saturday game courtesy of the mercy rule, as they took down a game Northwest squad 10-4. The Northwest team lost just 4-0 in their opener, so this was no easy contest.
However, Parsippany looked less than elite in the opener when it fell to the Southeast 12-1.
3. Caribbean
The boys from Curacao got off to a rough start as they lost to Japan 7-0 and struck out 14 times in the six-inning game.
That should stand mostly as a testament to the great pitching of Japan as this team proved it could hit by belting out 14 runs against Germany in its second game.
Still, this is a team that is going to struggle against good pitching, and it is a long road out of the loser's bracket.
2. Mexico
Mexico is a tough team to read. One minute they look like world beaters, the next they look completely vulnerable.
Of course, take out the first inning in its opening loss lost to Canada and things look a little better. Mexico fell behind Canada 7-0 before it even had a chance to hit.
The team rallied, and actually tied the score, but wound up losing 13-9. Mexico then cruised past Uganda. Mexico has a powerful lineup. Its power means it is never out of a game.
1. New England
The Little Leaguers from Fairfield, Conn. had a rough opening draw as they were forced to take on the West representative, Petaluma, Calif.
They lost to 6-4, but looked good while doing so, and they looked even better as they were destroying the Midwest team 12-0 in their game on Saturday.
This is a solid and complete team, and if one squad is going to run the table from the losers' bracket, the smart money is on the boys from Fairfield.
