Little League World Series: TV and Live Stream Info for Saturday's Action
It’s Day 3 from the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., and four teams will be eliminated from contention. Today’s four matchups feature all eight teams who lost their opening round matchups. Each team will be trying to extend its summer vacation by at least one more day with a win on Saturday, but it won’t be easy.
Even though each team has a loss already, four of the teams do have advantages just based on what day their opening round game was played. Managing pitch counts is a huge part of this tournament, and if a team played on Thursday, they’ve had more time to rest and might have more eligible pitchers for the elimination game.
No team wants to go home, so we’re bound to see some great battles today. Each game will be aired on either ESPN or ABC today and can also be viewed via ESPN3 as you’ll see below in the game previews.
Game 9: Caribbean vs. Europe, Volunteer, 12:00 p.m. ET (ESPN and ESPN3)
Saturday’s opening game should be a good one in the International loser’s bracket, featuring Curacao and Germany. Germany only managed one run off of Chinese Taipei, and Curacao couldn’t even get on the board against Japan. Both faced very good pitching teams, but which team gets the upper hand in this one? I’m giving this game to Curacao. Curacao faced a much better team in Japan and I think that the bats can come alive against the European champions.
Game 10: New England vs. Midwest, Lamade, 3:00 p.m. ET (ABC, ESPN3 and ESPN3D)
Connecticut is a very tough team to take down, but California was able to do it in the opening round. I don’t think that Nebraska will be able to defeat them for the second time in a row. Nebraska lost by 11 runs in its first game to Tennessee while Connecticut lost a tight game by just two runs. I think that the New England champions are going to put Matt Kubel on the mound, which would mean trouble for the Midwest champions as he’s a very good pitcher.
Game 11: Mexico vs. Middle East & Africa, Volunteer, 6:00 p.m. ET (ESPN and ESPN3)
The Little Leaguers from Uganda are easily the best story to ever come through Williamsport. These are kids who are growing up in extreme poverty, but have escaped the poor conditions and made it to the Little League World Series for the first team ever. Unfortunately, their opening game didn’t go as planned as they lost 9-3 and had a tough time making contact at times. I predict that Mexico is going to win this one, but there’s no shame in losing for the kids from Uganda.
Game 12: Mid-Atlantic vs. Northwest, Lamade, 8:00 p.m. ET (ESPN, ESPN3 and ESPN3D)
Saturday’s finale will feature New Jersey and Oregon, two teams that lost on Friday in tightly contested matchups. New Jersey had the tough task of playing Texas, who is an early favorite on the United States’ side of the bracket. I would expect Bener Uygun, who was extraordinary during the regional tournament, to take the mound on Saturday for the Mid-Atlantic champions. Oregon didn’t have a lot of success at the plate against Indiana, but should give New Jersey a run for its money. I think New Jersey lives to see another day in this one.
