Alex Ferguson Regrets No Away Goal at Inter Milan But Upbeat for Second Leg

Daniel GoochFeb 25, 2009

Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted in his team's 0-0 draw on Saturday against Inter Milan, but rues the lack of an away goal at the San Siro.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, and Wayne Roonet all had a number of chances to score on the night, but were unable to, due to the defence of Inter Milan and the placement of the shots.

Alex Ferguson believed the score should have been different:

"We deserved to win," he said in a press conference. "We showed good composure and maturity. The second leg is at Old Trafford and with our record there we have a good chance to win."

United dominated the game, with the majority of the shots on goal and it was the Italian goalkeeper, Julio Cesar, who was the busiest of the two men in front of goal.

Sir Alex hopes his side will continue their pressure on Inter in the return leg at Old Trafford on March 11. He believes United are "capable" of beating the Italian side in front of their own fans in Manchester.

Jose Mourinho was satisfied with the result and was full of praise for his keeper Julio Cesar. He believes the outcome of these legs will be a repeat of the 2004 semi-final, when Porto (his team at the time) drew 0-0 at home with Deportivo La Coruna, then won the away leg and went on to win the title.

The second leg at Old Trafford is looking like it is going to be a nail biter, and, being a United fan, I hope they will get the better of Inter and get one over on 'the special one.

Come on UNITED!
