Tennessee Titans: 4 Players Who Are on the Bubble This Preseason

Benjamin MottJun 5, 2018

Every preseason, a plethora of players are cut in order for NFL teams to reach the 53-player maximum. While most of the players cut are rookies and other young players, veteran players are not at all immune to being cut from teams.

Here's a look at four Tennessee Titans veteran players who could find themselves looking for work before the end of the preseason.

Shaun Smith

1 of 4

Smith was expected to produce a lot more than he did last season, and with all the depth the Titans have at the defensive tackle position, he may find himself on the outside looking in.

Jurrell Casey and Sen'Derrick Marks are likely the starters at the defensive tackle positions, with Karl Klug, the teams leader in sacks last season, as the backup. Smith will have to contend with Leger Douzable, Zach Clayton, and rookie Mike Martin to stay on the team, but after last seasons disappointment, it's not likely that Smith will stick with the 53-man roster.

Gerald McRath

2 of 4

After a decent rookie season, McRath fell off in his 2010 campaign and was all but forgotten last season.

Mostly a special teams contributor in his third season, McRath barely saw the field outside of special teams, and with the additions of Zac Diles and rookie Zach Brown, McRath could end up being a late cut.

Ryan Mouton

3 of 4

Mouton missed all of last season with a torn Achilles tendon. Now he is fighting for not only the spot as the nickel back, but also possibly his roster spot.

With guys like Tommie Campbell, Chris Hawkins, Coty Sensabaugh, and Terrence Wheatley, Mouton will definitely have to earn his way back onto the field. With his experience, he should make the final roster, but coming off of that Achilles injury, you never know.

Will Witherspoon

4 of 4

If Zach Brown has a solid preseason and Gerald McRath reestablishes himself, it may not be out of the question to think that Witherspoon could end up being one of the final cuts.

While Witherspoon can still make plays, he really was off at some points in last season. At the age of 31, he could stick on the roster as a veteran leader, but Tennessee youth movement could push him right off.
