Updated NFL Mock Draft: Trades Included

Jackson DworakFeb 24, 2009

I have made a new, more realistic mock draft, with predicted trades included.

1. Detroit Lions/Matthew Stafford/Quarterback/Georgia

The Lions clearly have tons of needs, probably more than any team in NFL history. They would love to go with a safe pick here, such as Andre Smith. But if they want to turn their team around as quickly as possible, they'll need a franchise player, and that guy is Matt Stafford.

2. San Francisco 49ers (Predicted trade f/STL)/Aaron Curry/Linebacker/Wake Forest

The 49ers would love another top linebacker, but that won't come to them at number 10.

Curry is the best player available in the draft. St. Louis would love a tackle to anchor their line, and with four top ten potential tackles available, they could trade down to get one, and receive other picks in the draft.

3. Kansas City Chiefs/Mark Sanchez/Quarterback/USC

The Chiefs have many needs, and like Detroit, it all starts with the quarterback. Tyler Thigpen is not as good as Chiefs fans would like. Sanchez played big in big games, and that's what they need in KC.

4. Seattle Seahawks/Michael Crabtree/Wide Receiver/Texas Tech

The Seahawks have lacked a top receiver for a long time, and Crabtree is the best available. Malcolm Jenkins is also a possibility here.

5. Cleveland Browns/Malcolm Jenkins/Cornerback/Ohio State

Eric Wright is the only starting caliber corner on the squad, and they would like another. Jenkins is fast and has high awareness, and would be the ideal pick here.

6. Washington Redskins (Predicted trade f/CIN)/Jason Smith/Offensive Tackle/Baylor

The Bengals will probably trade down here. The possibility of someone like Michael Oher or Chris Wells being available past the top 10 could be tempting, with a few more picks and players likely involved. Jason Smith isn't the perfect fit in the Skins system, but he could be to intriguing to stay at number 13 and try to hope he slips down, which won't happen.

7. Oakland Raiders/Eugene Monroe/Offensive Tackle/Virginia

I had Andre Smith here on my last mock draft, but I realize that Monroe is a much better fit for the Raiders' line. He has a few questions in pass blocking, which makes this a risky pick, but Monroe is someone who will generate high interest from Oakland. Jeremy Maclin is also a top possibility here, but O-line is a much more nagging need.

8. Jacksonville Jaguars/Jeremy Maclin/Wide Receiver/Missouri

This was a tough pick. The Jaguars have been drafting and signing risky wide receivers over the past years who haven't fully turned out. Matt Jones had his off-the-field issues, and Reggie Williams hasn't lived up to his full playing potential. With that said, we know how their front office is, and they would love to take another. Maclin is the best available receiver at this point. A offensive tackle is also an option here, but the top two tackles available don't seem suitable for their system.

9. Green Bay Packers/Brandon Pettigrew/Tight End/Oklahoma State

The Packers should probably take a lineman, whether it be offensive or defensive, but they would like another target for emerging Aaron Rodgers, and Pettigrew would be the guy for Green Bay.

10. St. Louis Rams (Predicted trade f/SF)/Andre Smith/Offensive Tackle/Alabama

The Rams would make a good move here, because they traded down for someone they may have selected at number two. Smith will eventually take over for the aging, injury-plagued Orlando Pace.
