London 2012: Look at the Countries Leading the Medal Count at the End of Day 12
Day 12 is completed at the Olympics at the U.S. has stormed into the lead of the medal count.
The day saw medals handed out in 17 different events, including women's beach volleyball, four canoeing events, sailing, equestrian, table tennis, wrestling, taekwondo, and track and field.
With four days to go in competition and 86 medals still left to be handed out, it's still anyone's guess as to who will finish on top of the medal race.
Here's a look at the standings after the 12th day.
1. USA

Bronze: 25
The U.S. stormed into the medal lead with a great day on Day 12. For the day, the U.S. won four golds, three silvers and two bronzes.
The highlight of the day was the gold-medal beach volleyball match between two-time defending Olympic gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings, and April Ross and Jen Kessey.
In the end, it was May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings going out on top in what was the final match for the pair. They swept the best two-of-three match 21-16, 21-16.
Winning gold medals in track & field were Brittney Reese in the long jump, Allyson Felix in the 200 meters and Aries Merritt in the 110-meter hurdles.
Lashinda Demus won silver in the 400-meter hurdles, while Jason Richardson won silver in the 110-meter hurdles.
Janay Deloache took home bronze in the long jump, as did Carmelita Jeter in the 200.
2. China

Silver: 22
Bronze: 19
China had a relatively slow day in the medal count as they only won two golds and one silver on the day.
Wu Jingyu took gold in the women's flyweight taekwondo, while the men's table tennis team beat South Korea 3-0 to take the gold.
Winning China's lone silver on the day was Jing Ruixue in the women's freestyle wrestling 63-kilogram division.
3. Russia

Silver: 19
Bronze: 22
The Russians took three medals on Day 12 (one of each).
Winning gold was Natalya Antyukh in the 400-meter hurdles, while Elena Sokolova took silver in the long jump. Alexey Denisenko took bronze in the men's flyweight taekwondo.
Russia won't have a chance at the top two spots in the country medal standings, but they do have a good shot at the No. 3 spot, along with the next team.
4. Great Britain

Bronze: 13
The Brits didn't bring home any medals on Day 12.
If they hope to beat the Russians for third place, they're going to have to ensure that they're taking home medals over each of the last four days of competition.
5. Germany

Gold: 7
Silver: 15
Bronze: 10
The Germans won one gold, one silver and three bronze medals on Day 12, helping themselves move into fifth place ahead of Japan.
Winning gold was Sebastian Brendel in the canoeing sprint C-1 1,000 meters, while the silver was won by the German canoeing sprint flat women's K-4 500-meter team.
Bronze medals were won by Max Hoff in canoeing K-1 1,000 meters, the team of Martin Hollstein and Andreas Ihle in canoeing sprint flat K-2 1,000 meters and the men's table tennis team.
