John Tortorella, Controversial Coach, Returns to Reins of the New York Rangers
"Brash, bold and anything but a touchy-feely personality, Tortorella is nearly the direct antithesis of Renney," Steve Zipay says on Newsday.com.
Bob McKenzie of TSN reports "sources say there may have been other potentially 'inappropriate' contact between the Ranger organization and members of the Lightning.
"The league is investigating and while there has been much discussion between all involved parties, it's not out of the question that the Lightning will file formal tampering charges against the Rangers."
"There was speculation the Lightning were demanding compensation to release Tortorella from his contract. Sather said no compensation was paid," according to the Globe and Mail.

Torotella is an "irritable, irascible man who cannot unwind," says Eric Adelson on ESPN.com. "He seems too combustible, too tightly wound to have any real chance of lasting greatness, let alone likability."
Adelson calls him " a man who terrorizes subordinates with barked orders and foul moods and curse words ("I'm tired of f-ing waiting!") that work as both verbs and adjectives...a man whose lips curdle as if he'd just smelled three-week-old milk, who raises his voice in normal conversation as if he were constantly ordering from a drive-through...and a man who seems like a tyrant. And a control freak."
John Tortorella, born in Boston, famous for taking a Florida team to the Stanley Cup, has just become the 34th head coach of the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League.
He is perhaps best known for his tenure as head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he led the team to the 2004 Stanley Cup.
He is also the current coach of the U.S. National Men's hockey team. He led the team at the 2008 IIHF World Championship, where they finished sixth.
He formerly coached the AHL Rochester Americans and the ECHL Virginia Lancers. He was also an assistant coach for the AHL's New Haven Nighthawks and Rochester Americans, and the NHL's Buffalo Sabres, Phoenix Coyotes and New York Rangers.
He won the Calder Cup with the 1996 Rochester Americans.
He also played right wing in the NCAA and ACHL. He played college hockey at the University of Maine from 1978–81.
He was involved in controversy during the Lightning's series against the New Jersey Devils during the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He openly cursed on the air and told New York Post reporter Larry Brooks to "get the f--- out of here" live on CBC television.
Tortorella was fined $10,000 by the NHL for negative comments he made about the on-ice officials after a 4–3 overtime loss at Atlanta on November 19, 2007.
After being dismissed from his Lightning job, Tortorella was panel member on the NHL on TSN. He was hired as Head Coach of the New York Rangers the day Tom Renney was fired.
