Floyd Mayweather: 5 Fights to Show How a Fight Card Promoted by TMT Would Look

Justin TateJun 7, 2018

Floyd Mayweather and 50 Cent have the world on notice, as their boxing promotion company TMT (The Money Team) looks to put on its first show in Las Vegas in November.

Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy tried to dismiss it on Twitter in a back and forth with 50 Cent before flip-flopping and talking about his hopes in working with TMT some day.

Bob Arum of Top Rank called TMT a good thing for boxing and expressed his desires to do business with the company.

He even said this may make a long-awaited fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao more possible than ever.

One of the similarities between Top Rank and Golden Boy is that they each have a tendency to put on in-house productions using their vast stable of fighters.

TMT is not yet as huge a promoter as those two, but very well could put on their own in-house production using their own fighters and a few free agents and fighters with much smaller promoters.

50 Cent has even expressed how his vision of a fight card would work. He wants TMT's events to have five main event-caliber fights rather than one huge fight that fills up an arena at night's end.

With Mayweather just recently released from jail and looking quite healthy as he gets back to training, he could be the headliner of a November event.

Here's a prediction from start to finish of what the first boxing event produced and promoted primarily by TMT would look like.

Opening Bout: Celestino Caballero vs. Billy Dib in a World Title Unification

1 of 5

Caballero (36-4, 23 KO) is tall and lanky with a 5'11" frame and a nearly Hall of Fame career at featherweight and junior featherweight.

Dib (35-1, 21 KO) is a soon-to-be 27-year-old on the rise in the featherweight kingdom.

Both own a featherweight world title, Caballero has the WBA portion and Dib is the IBF beltholder.

And now, both are signed to TMT, making a fight much more likely between the two.

Putting a unification match of this magnitude first would certainly be living out 50 Cent's vision of TMT holding five main events. This is the type of fight that would headline on any other occasion.

Zab Judah vs. Lamont Peterson for the IBF World Title

2 of 5

When Judah (42-7, 29 KO) signed on with TMT, plans came out that IBF junior welterweight king Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO) was on his radar.

Judah is back in the title picture after dismantling Vernon Paris (26-1, 15 KO) in March.

Though Peterson still has to deal with a trial over a positive drug test, the investigation's conclusion is drawing near.

If this fight goes down, it'll be action-packed, as Peterson brings skilled aggression and Judah brings fight-ending power and dazzling speed.

This is a fight that could sell out an arena in Judah's native Brooklyn, New York and again fits another main event instead of just another addition to the undercard.

Andre Dirrell vs. Arthur Abraham II for the WBO World Title

3 of 5

Dirrell (20-1, 14 KO) vs. Abraham (34-3, 27 KO) is a grudge match over two years in the making. Dirrell has even stated that TMT wants to get him this rematch.

Both participated in the Super Six Tournament that lasted from 2009 until 2011. The two came together in a 2010 clash that saw Dirrell begin to outbox Abraham.

Dirrell knocked Abraham to the canvas in Round 4 for the first time in Abraham's career. Going into Round 11, Abraham was trailing on the scorecards.

After Dirrell slipped to the canvas, Abraham nailed him on the chin as he tried to get up. Dirrell went into convulsions, and the referee ruled the move an intentional foul on Abraham's part.

Abraham was disqualified and Dirrell awarded the victory. Dirrell dropped out of the tournament due to neurological problems.

Dirrell finally returned to boxing nearly two years later this past December against Darryl Cunningham (25-4, 10 KO). Dirrell won by knockout in Round 2 after dropping him twice.

Abraham will face current WBO super middleweight champ Robert Stieglitz (42-2, 23 KO) in Germany on Aug. 25. Abraham is expected to win using his power to overcome the champ.

When that happens, Mayweather could offer him money to bring him on over to the U.S. to defend his title and settle the score from his first defeat.

To make this fight even easier to make, Dirrell is ranked high enough on the WBO rankings to become Abraham's mandatory challenger if he wins the world title.

Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Richard Abril for the Vacant WBA Lightweight World Title

4 of 5

Gamboa (21-0, 16 KO) and Abril (17-3-1, 8 KO) have three things in common.

They're both Cuban, WBA mandatories for the now vacant WBA lightweight world title and share a controversial history with Top Rank's former lightweight champ Brandon Rios (30-0-1, 22 KO).

Rios was set to defend the WBA lightweight title against Gamboa this past April until Gamboa backed out due to complaints over his contract with Top Rank.

Abril stepped in while Top Rank and Gamboa battled in court. Abril effectively outboxed Rios, yet still ended up with the controversial split decision victory.

Even while Rios won, he was forced to lose his title on the scales, as he could not come in at the 135-pound weight limit any longer. Now, Rios moves up while the title is vacated.

This leaves room for Gamboa and Abril to take the title in what would be a display of skill and speed. Abril has a small promoter that TMT can easily out-bid to get the rights to host this fight.

Mayweather considers Gamboa a fighter who was mistreated by his former promoter. In the build-up to a fight like this, expect a lot of mud to be slung on Top Rank's name.

Main Event: Floyd Mayweather vs. Andre Berto for the WBC Welterweight Title

5 of 5

Berto (28-1, 22 KO) is another of TMT's most recently signed fighters with a lot of potential. He faced Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO) in last year's classic of a bout.

After showing a lot of heart and power even in losing a brutal decision to Ortiz, he bounced back by battering the right eye of IBF welterweight champ Jan Zaveck (32-2, 18 KO) closed to win by TKO.

Since then, Berto has experienced failed drug tests that has since been brought to the light to possibly be the result of contamination.

Mayweather would go on to win the WBC welterweight title Berto lost to Ortiz by controversially knocking out Ortiz in the fourth round last September.

Mayweather has just been released after two months behind bars. At age 35, there will be questions of his athletic ability.

Berto is strong, fast and has highly explosive power. Even if he loses, he'll make for a dangerous, entertaining fight for Mayweather.

As seen in May's Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO) junior middleweight bout, an intelligently aggressive opponent could make for an eventful matchup with Mayweather.

Berto is not gullible enough to fall for the silliness that ended the Ortiz fight. Berto's shown he won't be deterred even when the chips are down.  Just one of Berto's shots perfectly timed can end a fight.

And if Berto just so happens to land that perfect knockout punch, then Mayweather can retire to promote the new king.
