Philop Sharky Announces Retirement: Farewell to the Greatest Ever

Sam SmithFeb 21, 2009

After defeating King Frog at Feeding Frenzy 9 in perhaps the most epic battle in the history of the Shark Fighting Federation, Philop Sharky has retired.

Sharky has held the title for 13 months—doubling the previous longest title reign—after defeating King Frog five times in a row, Hammy twice, and Finny four times in a row.

After re-injuring his fin, jaw, and eye, Sharky fought through everyone and everything thrown at him and had the greatest run in the history of the SFF.

Philop Sharky vs. King Frog at Feeding Frenzy 9 was the famous final scene of Sharky's illustrious career. Sharky is the legend of the SFF.

There are so many things to be said about Philop Sharky. The fact is that he fought through injuries, adversity, and everything ever since joining and creating the SFF in 1996. Sharky's defining characteristic was his heart and will to never die, or as Walter Payton said, "Never die easy."

If you ever beat Sharky, you had to nearly kill him, from the invention of the SFF tournament, which Sharky dominated and in which he never lost a tournament, to his absolutely barbaric matches against the Undertaker which completely defined an era in the SFF. Seasons came and went, but Sharky's dominance in the SFF never withered, even at the very end.

Finny said, "There are so many memories of Sharky, he's the reason I'm in the SFF. He's what I always aspired to be somewhere down the road. I realized there will never be another Sharky. However, his image and lasting legacy on the SFF will be remembered by me and everyone who steps foot into HIS ring."

What else can be said? Sharky is and will very likely always be the face of the Shark Fighting Federation and most likely will never be dethroned from the greatest ever.

Many legends of SFF and other sports had plenty to say.

Jim Thome said, "Philop Sharky reminded us all that there is joy in a man playing a game. Sharky never forgot his roots or where he came from. Phil always did it with that smile, Sharky's memories from the SFF will be golden to me and many fans everywhere."

Jim Tressel added, "Philop has made us appreciate the times that have truly been super, no matter the challenge he never backed down. Through his perseverance, courage, and toughness every single match, day in and day out Phil you have inspired us all."

Lee Corso chimed in, "Big Sharky always stood his ground even when others doubted him, we are all thankful for you and what you did Phil!"

Muhammed Ali said, "When people thought Sharky could no longer hang at the top or do the job he loved, he proved this year he still had the magic that always made Sharky special.

Brett Favre added, "Philop Sharky is a star no one can argue what he did in the ring. He's been a champion and is truly a legend and I know he was an inspiration to me during tough times."

Thank you, Sharky, for the memories.
