2013 Iowa Football Recruiting Class: Get to Know Safety Solomon Warfield

Nicholas MoffittJun 7, 2018

Solomon Warfield, a 3-star recruit out of Lakewood, Ohio, committed to play for the Hawkeyes earlier this year. The six-foot, 175-pound safety was a part of the 2010 state championship team for St. Edward High School.

In a one-on-one interview, Warfield talked about his commitment. The most important factor in his decision was, "It was just the fact that I felt comfortable with the coaches and a steady program. The environment."

The Hawkeye program's steadiness is something that is one of the most valuable aspects of recruiting, and Kirk Ferentz more often than not turns out a bowl game-going team and has multiple BCS bowls under his belt.

The future hard-hitter said he felt most comfortable at free safety, and that is what he was recruited at. Not too long ago Iowa didn't even recruit safeties. In his ScoutingOhio.com recruiting film (below), some monstrous hits occur, and he will bring good run-stopping to the defense.

Warfield was very impressed with the coaches, citing the "family atmosphere," as the best of his visits and how, "My whole family liked it, they treated us with open arms. Me and my family really enjoyed it."

Although only a verbal commit, the future Hawkeye will most likely stay committed. He has not visited or considered any other schools post-commitment to Iowa. His upcoming senior season is still very important to Warfield. His No. 1 goal, as any high school senior will tell you, is to win the state championship.

St. Edward competes in Ohio Division-I high school football and will try to bounce back from a 2011 second-round playoff exit with the defensive help of Warfield. On whether he has any personal goals for the season, all he added was "more interceptions, but other than that just the team goals."

Off the field, his love is music and everything about it; he could potentially enter Iowa as a music production major, he said. Other options he's considering are business management or criminal justice. On his visit he loved Iowa City and how "convenient" everything is.

The safety will be coming to Kinnick in 2013 and hasn't discussed red-shirt options with the team, so Warfield could see the field early in his Hawkeye career. He adds speed and essential run-stopping to the team that could prove to be valuable, especially in the Big Ten.

If he has a successful senior campaign and keeps up his level of play, the Hawkeyes got a steal of a recruit here at the No. 39 ranked safety in the country.
