NBA Rumors: Josh Howard and Veterans Still Worth Targeting

Rob GoldbergJun 7, 2018

Most of the top NBA free agents are already off the board, but there are still plenty of players available that can help a team contend for a title.

Last postseason, a number of veteran role players ending up becoming big parts for teams that went all the way to the finals. Derek Fisher provided a steady hand for the Oklahoma City Thunder, while Shane Battier gave the Miami Heat an additional outside threat.

Teams that want to contend this postseason should look to sign one of these players.

Josh Howard

Howard is not the player he was with the Dallas Mavericks, but he can still help a lot of teams when he is healthy.

Marcus Spears of Yahoo! reports that the free agent is deciding between the Utah Jazz, Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks.

While the Jazz and Warriors are building solid foundations for the future, Howard does not need to be part of a rebuilding project. He should choose to play for a contender where he can be a valued part of the rotation. The Pacers might be a good fit as they are young, but they are also talented and close to a title.

Carl Landry

Although he has been a solid performer throughout his career, it has taken a long time for Landry to find a new team.

He is a little undersized for a power forward, but he is a hard worker that has averaged double-digit points in each of the past three years.

According to CBS' Matt Moore, the Golden State Warriors have made Landry their "focus." This would be a good addition as he will immediately step into the teams rotation and be a force when on the floor.

Joel Przybilla

While he has never put up big numbers in his career, Przybilla will certainly help teams as a force on the defensive end. The seven-footer has averaged 6.3 rebounds per game in his 12-year career and would definitely be worth adding to a rotation.

Gery Woelfel of the Journal-Times believes that the big man is close to signing with the Milwaukee Bucks as a backup to Samuel Dalembert.

If he does not end up with Milwaukee, any team with a void up front can fill it in a hurry by signing Przybilla.
