After the Love Is Gone: What to Do When Your Favorite Player Moves On
You're going to be OK.
Before we go any further, I need you to know that.
When one of your favorite players on your team leaves, it can be a tough time. But when he/she goes to a rival team? The pain can be agonizing, like a hundred kicks to the crotch, or a never-ending Coldplay concert. Below are some tips to help ease your heartache.
Get rid of the evidence
Like any bad break-up, the last thing you want is to be reminded all the time of your former one-and-only. This is your time to clean house. Give away that jersey, rip that Fathead off the wall, it's time to move on.
Remember the good times
One of the saddest days in my life was when Frank Thomas left the White Sox. It was like seeing your parents fight when he and Kenny Williams were going at it.
But every time I get down, I think about how in his last year when they played the Cubs, he walked up and hit a one-pitch home run.
That, and he's one of the best power hitters ever and did it all cleaner than a virgin's bedsheets.
Try To Move On
It's over, and you're getting a little better about it. You have a choice to make here, do you want to a: follow the player to the new team or b: disavow any knowledge of the player ever existing. I recommend the latter.Try this prompt to see how you feel.
Example: Who's (insert former fave player)? I've never heard of anyone with that name before. You say he/she was a player for the (insert fave team name)? Hm. doesn't ring a bell.
I hope you can use some of these tips to get you through this, and hey, keep that chin up, ok?
