Olympic Soccer TV Schedule: Why You Can't Miss a Single Brazil Men's Contest

Timothy RappJun 5, 2018

For those of you out there who don't like soccer, I challenge you to watch the Brazilian men's national team at the Olympics and honestly say that soccer is boring.

I dare you to try and contend that the game is dull after seeing young star Neymar streak down the left side at blazing speeds, somehow keeping the ball glued to his feet while defenders haplessly try to impede his progress toward the goal.

Not a huge speed guy? How about power?

On the other wing, Brazil's got this guy they call Hulk, an imposing physical specimen who has a left foot about as powerful as the green dude's fists.

Of course, this is Brazil, so there is no shortage of creativity. Keep an eye on young midfield maestro Oscar, Chelsea's latest signing—he's vital to Brazil's attack, turning defense into offense by linking the back line with the attack moving forward. His movement and passing in the middle of the field is a treat to watch.

Plus, Brazil just has a flair in its game that the rest of the world can't match. Brazil doesn't play soccer like people dance; other people dance the way Brazil plays soccer.

They run to one side, flick the ball to the other and leave defenders in the dust. They don't always look when they back heel a pass to a teammate, but it always seems to find its target. They dip and feint, run over the ball while defenders become mesmerized by their legs flashing this way and that. Shots curve into the net from crazy angles; passes you wouldn't even dream of hit the target.

They aren't perfect, but even their flaws are fantastic to watch. They are vulnerable at times defensively, and they will concede goals.

How do they compensate for that weakness?

They press far up the field, hoping to stall an attack before it even gets over the half line. They dominate possession, sometimes seeming to pass the ball amongst  themselves just for the fun of it. And they never let up—from the moment the game starts until the time it ends, they are attacking.

For 90 minutes, Brazil looks to score goals and very rarely do they score them in a conventional, boring manner. In every match, you'll see a Brazilian pull off a maneuver that just makes you laugh, because it is simultaneously cheeky, amazing and incredibly daring to even attempt.

If you think I'm exaggerating, go ahead and watch a game. Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me the joy the Brazilians play the game with isn't infectious. Tell me you didn't enjoy the experience, or that you didn't enjoy Neymar or Hulk's performance.

Go ahead. I dare you.
