College Football: 2013 Weekly Recruiting Roundup July 19-26

Michael FelderJun 7, 2018

Every Thursday we outline the biggest recruiting happenings on the national landscape for you. This week we have a couple flips and some long-distance commitments as the schools inch closer to camp.

College football's most prevalent topic of the last week has been Penn State; the sanctions, the protocol, the reaction, the transfers and all that comes with it. So, it only makes sense that Penn State also touched our recruiting roundup as the Nittany Lions work to not only build a class but also keep their current roster together.

Ross Douglas, the defensive back from Ohio, was the first player to drop Penn State following sanctions. The speedster picked the Michigan Wolverines as his future destination, and we'll keep you posted since other kids have between now and February to decide on their futures. Also in the Big Ten, Michigan's rival, Ohio State, landed a commitment from Taivon Jacobs, a wide receiver from the D.C. Metro area

To the Big Ten's biggest "rivals," so to speak, the SEC. Alabama took a bit of a blow to its pride as offensive lineman Andy Dodd flipped from the Tide to the Bayou Bengals this week. No worries, though, Nick Saban and co. picked up two more commitments this week. Walker Jones, an Alabama legacy of sorts, committed to the Tide this week, as did tight end Josh McNeil. McNeil continues the state of North Carolina's long-standing tradition of sending the state's best players elsewhere.

We're not done with the SEC West, though, folks, Arkansas is getting on the board. Hunter Henry, a tight end, pledged to the Hogs this week to help them slowly build a class for interim coach John L. Smith. Also in the SEC West, the Texas A&M Aggies are truly embracing their inner-SEC. Now the Aggies are up to 27 commitments, after netting three pledges this week. Jeremy Tabuyo is a wide receiver from Hawaii, Rob Zimmerman is a JUCO defensive tackle and Shaan Washington is a safety from Louisiana who all committed to the high-energy man, Kevin Sumlin.

The Clemson Tigers are continuing their tear on both sides of the ball. Tyshon Dye, a big-time running back prospect, picked the Tigers with a lake over the Tigers on The Plains. Dabo also added to his offense with a wide receiver, by the name of Demarcus Robinson, out of Georgia. For the defensive side, Swinney added Scott Pagano, a big defensive lineman from Hawaii

In "mixed feelings" news, Sojourn Shelton, a one-time Florida State commitment, elected to re-open his recruitment. Not a huge deal for the Seminoles, and Shelton still has the Noles high on his list.

Over in the Coastal Division, Miami picks up two, and North Carolina grabs three. Miami put Jamal Carter from Southridge High School and Artie Burns from Northwestern High School into the boat—two defensive backs for the Canes. For the Tar Heels, Greg Webb, a former Penn State commit who left the Nittany Lions prior to the sanctions, joined the class. His pal Dajuan Drennon looks to join him at UNC, as he pledged to the Tar Heels as well. To wrap up, the Heels also got a commitment from some in-state talent; Nazair Jones, a defensive end, committed to UNC this week.
