Clemson Football Recruiting: 4-Star DT Commit Helps Tigers Boast Best DL Class
If anyone doubted the defensive front on Clemson's 2013 recruiting class, Scott Pagano silenced those doubters quickly.
While he planned on announcing his commitment on August 10, Pagano, a four-star defensive tackle by ESPN and Rivals, announced Tuesday night that he would play for Clemson.
Pagano chose Clemson over LSU, Florida and Alabama. In an interview with Rivals' Adam Gorney, Pagano said he "felt so comfortable" there.
"It just started with family," Pagano said. "It felt so right being there. I was so comfortable and it felt like my high school right now. Coach (Dabo) Swinney and my coach are so much alike and being about team bonding and being about the team. They're both very religious, too."
Having a lot of his family close in South Carolina also helped with his decision, and that's good news for Clemson fans. Having family nearby is always a plus, and it should also help keep him grounded and focused.
With the addition, Clemson now has the No. 1 overall recruit and five-star defensive end Robert Nkemdiche, four-star defensive end Elijah Daniel and Pagano. If all three players stay committed, that's a scary defensive front, folks.
In fact, I'd go as far to say no other school has a more impressive defensive line class for 2013. And yes, that's saying something considering USC has commits from 4-stars Eddie Vanderdoes, Kylie Fitts and five-star Kenny Bigelow.
Nkemdiche and Daniel's skills are both well documented, but as for the Tigers' newest commit, he's a 6'3", 280-pound prospect from Honolulu (Hawaii) Moanalua. He garnered numerous offers for his size, strength, rush defense and pass defense.
Considering how heavily each of these defensive players have been recruited, there's a good chance all three could be starting on Clemson's defensive line by 2015.
Until then, Clemson fans should be working on nicknames for this highly-touted defensive line class.
