Women's Olympic Soccer 2012: Alex Morgan Will Assert Herself as World's Elite
Abby Wambach, Hope Solo, Mia Hamm. Three names that when mentioned you automatically think of women's soccer.
Now, add Alex Morgan to that list of successful female United States soccer players and one to watch when the United States tries to capture gold in London.
Morgan isn't just a soccer player, she is following the same line as other young, iconic female athletes. Making the entertainment circuit, playing professionally for the Seattle Sound Women and of course, appearing in ESPN the Magazine's Body Issue.
It doesn't hurt she has strikingly beautiful looks and the skill to back up the fact that she is not just another pretty face (or body).
The new poster child will lead the American cause. According to Grant Wahl of CNNSI.com, Morgan is the player to definitely watch on the U.S. team.
"Morgan has been on fire in 2012, leading the U.S. with 17 goals in 15 games, and teammates say her tactical awareness is growing by leaps and bounds. She also has a knack for timely goals in the dying minutes of games.
"
Added by the fact that this is the same team—sans one player—that played in the 2011 World Cup, and the continuity of this team looks to be a winning combination for the Americans moving forward.
On Wednesday, the U.S. will open its quest for gold against France. It is two days before the opening ceremonies, but it will give fans a great indication of where the American teams stands.
And it will also give us an indicator of where Morgan stands in line as one of the next great female soccer players to play for the American cause.
