British Open Results 2012: Tiger Must Be Great on Sunday After Mediocre Saturday

Brian MaziqueJun 7, 2018

Tiger Woods hasn't had a bad day at Royal Lytham & St Annes, but Adam Scott has left him and the rest of the field with little room for error at the 2012 British Open.

Woods shot an even-par 70 on Saturday, and that was too normal to stay right behind the blistering hot and consistent Scott. Scott is one of two golfers (Graeme McDowell is the other) who has been under par in every round thus far, and Woods will need an amazing performance on Sunday to win.

Scott isn't likely to suffer a complete collapse, although the leader of Round 2, Brandt Snedeker shot a three-over 73 on Saturday. He looked like a shell of the player that took the lead on Friday, and Tiger will be hoping Scott is bit by the same bug.

There is some hope.ย

Scott's scores have worsened, ever so slightly, as the event has progressed. There is some logic to support the thought of him giving way to the field tomorrow. Thus, opening the door for a potentially surging Woods.

Up to now, Scott has looked rock solid and confident. Despite having only eight wins on the PGA Tour in 12 years as a professional, he isn't intimidated by the moment.

He hasn't won on the tour since August of last year, but he's doing everything to change that now.

Tiger is playing well right now, but he'll need to turn well into great on Sunday. I truly believe he can do it. If Tiger can shoot a 65 tomorrow, which of course is much easier said than done, Scott could shoot a one-over par 71 and still lose.

This is under the huge assumption that the likes of Graeme McDowell don't sneak in to take the Claret Jug.

Anything can happen, but I see this coming down to two players: Scott and Woods. If Scott shoots even or under, he'll win. If he doesn't, Tiger will sense blood in the water and score one of the most memorable victories of his career.
