British Open 2012 Tee Times: When Will Top Stars Start?

May 31, 2018

Day 3 of the British Open will tee off at 3:10 a.m. ET and, with the first two rounds now completed, we have a good idea of who has a chance entering the weekend when the tournament starts to get serious.

Brandt Snedeker, Adam Scott and Tiger Woods have dominated the headlines as the top three on the leaderboard but the field features some of golf's biggest names. A complete listing of tee times for Saturday's action can be found on ESPN.com

These are the tee times for the Open contenders and some of golf's biggest names.

Brandt Snedeker & Adam Scott (10:20 am ET)

Sitting atop the leaderboard are Snedeker and Scott. Snedeker took the lead at 10-under par after shooting a tournament-low 64 on Friday to go with a 66 in the first round of the tournament.

Scott comes into Day 3 trailing Snedeker by one stroke at nine-under and leads the tournament in birdies with 12. It should be interesting watching these two compete for leaderboard supremacy while paired together.

Both Snedeker and Scott will be chasing their first major and will need to continue to play well if they want to stave off a surging Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods (10:10 am ET)

While Snedeker and Scott have owned the first two rounds, Woods has not-so-quietly kept pace with the two as his back-to-back 67s have him at six-under par and sitting at No. 3 on the leaderboard. Woods has been highly accurate off the tee, leading the tournament with 92.6 percent fairway accuracy.

Woods, who remains one of golf's most prominent figures, needs to win the Open to end his four-year major championship drought, and this year's British Open figures to be his best chance in a while. With a great third round, Woods should have no problem keeping up with both Scott and Snedeker down the stretch.

Luke Donald (9:30 am ET)

Currently ranked No. 1 in the world by the Official World Golf Rankings, Donald is one of golf's top stars.

Donald has played consistently throughout 2012 but has struggled in the major tournaments. In 2011's British Open Donald failed to make the cut and most recently failed to make the cut at the U.S. Open.

Donald finds himself in a good position to post a solid finish in a major as he currently sits at T11 on the leaderboard and two-under par after firing a 68 in the tournament's second round. With the pressure of making the cut out of the way, Donald is in a position to shoot even better in the third round.

Rory McIlroy (5:25 am ET)

Former No. 1 player in the world and 2011 U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy is also looking to put together a solid performance after missing the cut at the 2012 U.S. Open.

The 23-year-old McIlroy has had an up-and-down outing at the Open thus far as he followed up a solid 67 in the opening round with a surprising 75-stroke effort on Friday. With such a vast discrepancy between rounds, it will be interesting to see how McIlroy responds to the adversity of the bad round Friday.

McIlroy has absolutely crushed the ball off the tee, averaging 300 yards per drive, but he will need to improve his putting if he wants to shoot more like he did in the opening rounds—he's averaging 1.69 putts per hole to this point.
