British Open 2012 Leaderboard: Updating the Early Action from Round 1
The 2012 British Open Leaderboard looks how it’s supposed to.
Tiger Woods is in striking distance of first place. “Striking distance” is the key, though. We wouldn’t want Tiger to blow out the field—that’d ruin the suspense in his attempt to end his four-year PGA Tour major drought.
Pushing Tiger at the top of the leaderboard is an underdog. OK, Adam Scott isn’t exactly an unknown—the Official World Golf Ranking pegs him as the 13th-best golfer in the world. But according to Bovada, the Australian still had 40-to-1 odds to win The Open Championship.
Right now, he’s defying them.
Also right with the world, a fan favorite, Bubba Watson is also in the race for first place. The 2012 Masters champion tweeted this silly message prior to the U.S. Open:
"Thinking about WDing from US Open cause I want to watch @TigerWoods & Phil on tv. But I forgot I got the best seat in da house!! #CrazyFan
— bubba watson (@bubbawatson) June 14, 2012"
Watson ended up doing just that after missing the cut. Don’t worry, he didn’t tweet any potential foreshadowing messages this time around, so he should be in the thick of things throughout.
Not all golfers got off to a hot start in the tournament, though.
Lee Westwood was a major favorite going into the British Open, but right now, he’s far off the lead. With three days remaining, Westwood should be fine, but he’ll need to pick it up soon if Tiger gets hot.
And reigning champion Darren Clarke doesn’t look like he’ll be defending his throne. Tied for 103rd, he currently has more important things on his mind, like making the cut for instance.
Here are the rest of the contenders, the current top-10 leaderboard in The Open Championship:
