United Stroll Past Fulham, Villa Held by CSKA Moscow, Diego Saves Bremen's Bacon

Manchester United 3 - Fulham 0 (Prmeier League, February 18, 2009) Bringing back memories of his famous goal against Bradford (watch here), Paul Scholes broke his duck for the season with a replica goal against Fulham, however on this occasion Mark Schwarzer was culpable for failing to stop the tame drive from crossing the line. In the second half Old Trafford saw the return of Wayne Rooney off the bench and the number 10’s first contribution was to score from Park’s shot-cum-cross.

Aston Villa 1 - CSKA Moscow 1 (UEFA Cup, February 18, 2009) CSKA took the lead courtesy of a brilliant goal by Vagner Love, the Brazilian played a neat one-two with Alan Dzagoev, raced forward past the Villa backline and finished expertly past Brad Guzan. Villa drew lwith 20 minutes to go, Gardener pulled back Young’s loose cross to John Carew and the big Norwegian powered home the equaliser.

Werder Bremen 1 - AC Milan 1 (UEFA Cup, February 18, 2009) A calamity of errors in the Werder Bremen defence resulted in the Germans gifting the Rossoneri the opener, Flamini crossing in for Pipo Inzaghi to turn home. Bremen found an equaliser six minutes from time when Almedia’s knock-down was picked up and converted by Diego.

Dynamo Kiev 1 - Valencia 1 (UEFA Cup, February 18, 2009) David Silva put Valencia ahead tapping home Mata’s cross at the near post. The Ukrainians drew level just after the hour mark through Artem Milevskiy, only for the goalscorer to pick up his second booking and marching orders minutes later.

Zenit St. Petersburg 2 - Stuttgart 1 (UEFA Cup, February 18, 2009) Zenit took the lead inside two minutes, Szabolcs Huszti firing home a rebound after the keeper had only parried the ball into the centre of the box. The Germans were only behind temporarily, hot-shot Mario Gomez fired the equaliser in the near post from the edge of the box. Olympiakos 1 - St. Etienne 3 (UEFA Cup, February 18, 2009) Didier Domi was caught out trying to play football on the edge of the Olympiakos, he lost the ball to Machado and Ilan gave St. Etienne a 12th minute lead. And it got better for the French outfit minutes before the break when Geoffrey Dernis curled in a second. In the 63rd minute Predrag Djordjevic pulled a goal back from a spot. But there was no fairytale comeback, Bafetimbi Gomis wrapping up a fine away win with a third in injury time.

NEC 0 - Hamburg 3 (UEFA Cup, February 18, 2009) Hamburg took control of their match at NEC with two quick-fire goals just before the break through Piotr Trochowski and Alex Silva. Ivica Olic sowed up the comfortable victory beating the offside trap with 15 minutes to go.

PSG 2 - Wolfsburg 0 (UEFA Cup, February 18, 2009) PSG won the game with two late headers from Guillaume Hoarau, the first looping over a stranded keeper and the second arriving from a corner.

Braga 3 - Standard Liege 0 (UEFA Cup, February 18, 2009) Standard fell behind to a wonderful angled drive into the top corner from Wason Renteria. And it was 2-nil after 26 minutes when Leone crashed in the second following a free-kick.

Aalborg 3 - Deportivo La Coruna 0 (UEFA Cup, February 18, 2009) Anders Due gave Aalborg the lead controlling the ball at the back post and then seeing his deflected shot beat the keeper. Due doubled his contribution for the night with a simple second tapping home Enevoldsen’s centred pass. Michael Jakobsen’s last gasp penalty sealed the empathic win.

Bordeaux 0 - Galatasaray 0 (UEFA Cup, February 18, 2009)

Watford 2 - Swansea 0 (Championship, February 17, 2009) First half efforts from Tamas Priskin and Tommy Smith was enough to claim all three points for Brendan Rodgers’ men.

Hereford 2 - Leeds 0 (League One, February 17, 2009) Leeds should taken the lead, but Lee Trundle’s penalty was turned aside by Gulacsi and two minutes later Hereford were in front. Sam Hewson slipped the ball through to Jennison Myrie-Williams whose left-footed shot found the far bottom corner. Febian Brandy grabbed the second with a header early in the second half.

Xanthi2 - AEK Atehns 1 (Greek Cup, February 18, 2009) A horrible call from the referee to award AEK an early penalty at Xanthi for a non-existent foul allowed Blanco to put the visitors ahead. A tremendous 30-yard rocket from Abraham brought Xanthi level just before the break and Dosek turned the match on its head with a second in the 68th minute.
