NBA Rumors: Rumored Landing Spots for Best Unclaimed Free Agent at Each Position

Adam FromalJun 3, 2018

The free agents are flying off the board fast and furious, much like highly-coveted items at a clearance sale, but there are still some quality options left.

Some positions remain stronger than others—point guard in particular has gotten weak—but each position has one player who stands out above the other options.

These are those players.

In addition to identifying the best remaining point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center, this article also identifies the rumored landing spots for each player and offers a prediction about their final destinations.

Read on for the All-Remaining-Free-Agent Team.

Point Guard: Nate Robinson

We're scratching the bottom of the free-agency pool for point guards at this point, as the best remaining option is the diminutive sparkplug named Nate Robinson. He's not starter material, but Robinson can still be a valuable rotation member for many teams.

Mark Travis of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports that an NBA league source informed him that the Houston Rockets are interested in pursuing the point guard as a means of replacing Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic.

It also seems likely that Robinson will not be headed back to the Golden State Warriors after the Dubs acquired Jarrett Jack from the New Orleans Hornets to shore up the backcourt behind incumbent starter Stephen Curry.

Prediction: Houston Rockets

Shooting Guard: Courtney Lee

Even before O.J. Mayo was off the board, Courtney Lee prevailed because of his well-rounded game and the presence of a conscience that prevents him from shooting his team out of the game.

HoopsWorld's Alex Kennedy informs his readers that four teams are interested in Lee right now, after the Houston Rockets made him an unrestricted free agent by rescinding their qualifying offer.

According to Kennedy, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns are both interested in signing Lee without any negotiations with the Rockets, while the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are exploring sign-and-trade options.

Lee, barring any unforeseen sudden developments, will bring his talents to one of these four teams, as none have dropped out of the running in more recent times.

Prediction: Boston Celtics

Small Forward: Grant Hill

The longtime NBA veteran has narrowed his decision down to a number of teams which would allow him to compete in the postseason as his career nears its end.

Grant Hill might be almost 40 years old, but he still has some hops and can make enough plays to get onto the court while providing a valuable veteran presence in the locker room.

The long-rumored destination for Hill is the Los Angeles Lakers, where he could join a title favorite and be reunited with his old teammate Steve Nash. According to John Gambadoro, a talk-show host on Sports 620 KTAR in Phoenix, the Lakers are the favorites right now thanks to the efforts of Nash and Kobe Bryant:

Then again, he could also go to L.A. and play for the Los Angeles Clippers while hanging out with Nash on off days.

A new entrant into the Hill sweepstakes, Vinny Del Negro met with Hill in Las Vegas on July 15. Now, Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Clippers do indeed have interest in the 39-year-old.

Across the country, other destinations could await Hill.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News tweets that Hill is still considering three teams (this came before the addition of the Clippers to the picture):

"

Prediction: Los Angeles Lakers

Power Forward: Carl Landry

In the last few weeks, there's only been one rumored landing spot for this underrated power forward: the Golden State Warriors.

The Dubs could use some frontcourt depth as they look to make a push to the postseason. As the Bay Area News Group's Marcus Thompson tweeted, there is indeed interest in Carl Landry:

Until someone else enters the running, this is an easy one.

Prediction: Golden State Warriors

Center: JaVale McGee

Even though JaVale McGee has pulled a Tim Duncan and stayed out of the news during the free-agency period, there is a little buzz about the big man who last played with the Denver Nuggets.

Benjamin Hochman of the Denver Post reports that the Nuggets have been negotiating with the center and have offered him a five-year deal worth $50 million.

While it's unlikely that the mercurial seven-footer receives a larger offer sheet from another team, he's still holding out hope for a bigger payday. There is no official source stating which other team's he's hoping might step up, but it's a safe assumption that the Portland Trail Blazers are in the back of his mind.

Prediction: Denver Nuggets
