How Will the Accident Involving Ryder and Ziggler Affect WWE Money in the Bank?

Cardiff WandererJun 7, 2018

WWE.com has reported that WWE superstars Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler, along with ring announcer Justin Roberts, were involved in a car accident in San Diego.

This is the full statement:

"

SAN DIEGO – WWE Superstars Zack Ryder, Dolph Ziggler and announcer Justin Roberts were involved in a car accident just outside of downtown San Diego on Friday afternoon just after 5:00 p.m. PT. Traveling in a limousine, the three were rear-ended as they were transported from Comic-Con: International at the San Diego Convention Center.

Shortly after the accident, all three were reportedly evaluated by paramedics. No serious injuries have been reported at this time. Stay with WWE.com as more details become available.

As seen above, no one is reported to be seriously injured, but this does not preclude minor whiplash or other conditions that can occur in a collision between motor vehicles. This could remove all three from Sunday's Money in the Bank pay-per-view if WWE officials do not feel that they are capable of competing.

As this point, only Dolph Ziggler was booked for a match, but he was a strong favourite to win the World Heavyweight title in the Money in the Bank ladder match.

All ladder matches are particularly dangerous, so any question marks around Ziggler's health are going to be examined even more thoroughly. Ziggler is too important to WWE's future to risk in just one match, so they will withdraw him if necessary.

The obvious replacement for Ziggler in the Money in the Bank match would have been Ryder. If both are out, then there may be an opportunity for one of the new breed—like Antonio Cesaro—to cement their place on the WWE main roster.

This is not the first car accident that has effected WWE in recent months, as Rosa Mendes was caught up in a five-car pileup in May. Mendes suffered serious whiplash from that incident, which, in a weird coincidence, also happened on a Friday before a pay-per-view.

Hopefully, all three involved are perfectly fine and it does not affect Money in the Bank, but it could lead to changes at the event itself.
