AC Milan Transfer Talk: How to Spend Ibrahimovic and Silva Money
Against the will of the fans and the promises made by the club, AC Milan are ready to offload their two best players, Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, to Paris Saint-Germain for an estimated total of €62 million, according to Fox Sports.
Milan claim to be looking to balance the books and club president Silvio Berlusconi can't dip into his own assets because of his own debt in the political arena as well as in his other business ventures.
The club part ways with two very high salaries, and according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, that could soon be three as Robinho could be sent to Santos in exchange for goalkeeper Rafael, but now, Milan have to replace their two best players and look to other needs.
Silvio Berlusconi claims that the club will save around €150 million over two years with the sale, but they don't need all of that to balance the books. Who will the club look to to replace their stars? The players mentioned in the coming slides are some of the top players that could be viable options for Milan.
Rolando, Center Back, FC Porto (Portugal)
1 of 6According to Gazzetto dello Sport (h/t Milanello), Porto and Milan are negotiating a Rolando move. The same group of sources says Rolando's value is €10-12 million.
Milanello also tweeted a photo of Porto's president's son at the Milan training facility, likely discussing a move.
Rolando, 26, is a perfect option to fill the void in the back. Thiago Silva is irreplaceable, but if he's to be replaced, Milan will want to get the best possible player at the most ideal price.
Mattia Destro, Forward, Siena (Italy)
2 of 6These days, it's near impossible for a 21-year-old to finish the season with 12 goals in a league like Serie A.
Destro earned the interest of Italy's top clubs with his absolutely incredible play during the 2011-12 season at Siena. Any club who wants him will have to work around the co-ownership deal between Siena and Genoa, but for Milan, he could be worth it.
Destro played on the youth team at Inter Milan with Mario Balotelli and was compared constantly to former Inter man (and the man he may be replacing at Milan) Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
According to Corriere dello Sport (h/t goal.com), Roma are keen on landing the young Italian, who just missed out on a spot on Italy's Euro 2012 team as is most of Italy. Milan should make Destro a primary objective.
Imagine a front line at Milan in three years that is led by Alexandre Pato, Stephan El Shaarawy and Mattia Destro. That's loaded.
Aleksandar Kolarov, Left Back, Manchester City (England)
3 of 6Milan have a great young talent at left back in Didac Vila, but the inexperienced 23-year-old has not been favored at the club since his move in January 2011.
Because of this, it is highly likely, as they have in each of the recent transfer windows, that they will go after a left back.
The best available player at left back has to be Manchester City's Serbian international Aleksandar Kolarov.
It is reported by The Daily Mail that Kolarov is unhappy at City, where he has played only 63 times in all competition since his 2010 move from Lazio.
The 26-year-old is tired of being behind Gael Clichy and AC Milan are monitoring the situation in hopes that the English champions and their player cannot reach an agreement about his future at the club.
Davide Astori, Center Back, Cagliari (Italy)
4 of 6Davide Astori joined Milan in 2001, but from that point until his departure, he never played a single match for the first team.
That may be about to change.
After spending four years at Cagliari, Astori may become Silva's replacement at Milan. Football-Italia is reporting that Astori is a target of the club, especially now that Dede has renewed his contract with Vasco de Gama with a €28 million buyout clause.
Astori worked hard for seven years to impress Milan, but never got his chance. As a star now after four great years at Cagliari, two of them under current Milan boss Max Allegri, Astori's red and black ambition is a likely outcome of this saga.
Carlos Tevez/Edin Dzeko, Forwards, Manchester City (England)
5 of 6While they remain talented up front, Milan fans will want another big name forward to replace Ibrahimovic. That replacement will likely come from the English champions if rumors are to be believed.
Edin Dzeko, who joined City in January 2011, has been a Milan target for several years since he burst onto the scene at Wolfsburg. A Milan fan in his younger days, Dzeko, who is behind the likes of Mario Balotelli, Sergio Aguero and Tevez on the pecking order for Roberto Mancini. A move to Milan could be tempting.
He would likely be a cheaper option than Carlos Tevez, who has been linked to Milan since he was put on gardening leave at the end of September last year. Tevez is rumored to be a top target for Milan up front, as ESPN Soccernet notes. This is no surprise as a deal was very nearly reached in the winter, but complications arose as City's asking price was too demanding for Milan to justify coupled with Tevez's necessary wages.
Milan would be glad to help City get rid of some of their clogging up front. Don't be surprised if the name Mario Balotelli comes in to the mix as well.
Robin van Persie, Forward, Arsenal (England)
6 of 6We all know by now that van Persie feels ready to leave Arsenal as he has said he will not renew his contract.
There are a couple reasons why he is on this list:
1. Van Persie has been heavily linked to Juventus, according to The Daily Mail. The Italian champions have already boosted their squad a lot this summer, adding Kwadwo Asamoah, Lucio, Mauricio Isla, Sebastian Giovinco and Paul Pogba. If Juventus get van Persie, the league may be already wrapped up. Milan need to try and stop that.
2. Silvio Berlusconi and Milan have a fascination with Dutch players. The first big names the president brought in when he bought the club back in 1986 were Marco Van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard, basically the three biggest Dutch players of the time. Milan has since been home to other big name Dutch stars such as Clarence Seedorf, Mark van Bommel and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. It seems weird for Milan to not currently have a Dutch player on the team. Milan are famous for the treatment of their international players in helping them to adjust and van Persie would comfortably transition.
Van Persie could be as lethal a goalscorer at Milan as he is at Arsenal. No Milan target is as talented and van Persie is longing for trophies. He could be the reason Milan obtain a few if he joins as Ibrahimovic's replacement.
