Georgia Football: Breaking Down RB Isaiah Crowell's Best and Worst Attributes
It looks like Isaiah Crowell gets a second chance.
Last week, Alabama State decided to take in the troubled running back, and he will play for the Hornets when they kick off their season in a couple months.
It's good to see Crowell get another chance because he's as talented of a running back as you will find in the country. But Hornets head coach Reggie Barlow has to be aware because Crowell is capable of doing something he should not be doing and could cost the Hornets some bad publicity which they can't afford.
Here's a breakdown of the Crowell's best and worst attributes.
Best Attributes
1 of 5The reason the Bulldogs (and virtually every college football country) wanted Crowell is the fact he can make an immediate impact as soon as he steps on the field.
With his breakaway speed and ability to score anywhere on the field, Crowell is a sure thing when it comes to college football running backs.
Crowell played for the Bulldogs in what some would say a part-time role and still rushed for 850 yards. That was enough for the Associated Press to award him Freshman of the Year.
Alabama State lucked out in getting Crowell because, if healthy, he is one of the most dangerous backs in the country,
Worst Attributes
2 of 5Speaking of staying healthy, that might be the biggest downfall for Crowell. The last half of the 2011 season was tough for the Columbus, Ga. running back because anytime he would get going, he would take himself out of the game because of a nagging injury.
That's the only on the field weakness Crowell has. Most of his problems lay off the field, which have been well-documented the past year.
From testing positive for drug use to gun possession, Crowell has had his share of run-ins, and Barlow hopes he can turn things around starting with a strong year with the Hornets.
Improvements on the Field
3 of 5The only thing Crowell needs to work on when it comes to his on-the-field traits is getting bigger, stronger and faster.
Actually, he is fast enough to break away from defenders, but adding some size and strength will give him an added boost.
Crowell just needs to spend more time in the weight room and the results will show. Not only will he be able to take on defenders head-on, spending more time in the weight room will help prevent injuries.
Going to Alabama State may be the best thing for him because he will have the opportunity to play right away and work on his weaknesses when he makes his return to the FBS level.
Improvements off the Field
4 of 5The best thing that Crowell can do when it comes his off-the-field traits is very simple.
STAY AT HOME!!
If he really wants to be a better person and he wants to prove he has changed, he has to make some drastic changes.
He has to change who he hangs out with, the activities he does outside of football and focus completely on his schoolwork.
Football doesn't last forever, and if he wants a future, getting is college degree is the key.
Future for Crowell
5 of 5Nobody really knows what the future holds for Crowell. He could bounce back from the mess in Athens and become an Heisman hopeful the next two years. He could also get arrested again and never play a down of football.
What it comes down to is this. Crowell is extremely talented and has all the tools to become an elite tailback. But he has keep his head on straight in order to achieve those goals.
If he can do the right things, then we'll see him in the national spotlight again. But if he continues to do the wrong things, then we'll see him in the national spotlight again.
