WWE Money in the Bank 2012: Why John Cena Won't Win WWE Title Ladder Match

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

WWE hates setting up the most obvious finish for a match, so much so that it will actually change the finish on the day of the show just to throw the audience for a loop. Even if it doesn't make sense to the storytelling, Vince McMahon will do it to laugh in everyone's face.

At Money In the Bank, there seems to be an obvious finish in the ladder match involving John Cena, Chris Jericho, Kane and Big Show for the right to a WWE championship match.

Big Show's push lasted about two weeks, but no one is taking him seriously. Kane is Kane, so he has no reason to be a factor in this match. Jericho is good enough, though his status in the company and feud with CM Punk earlier this year likely makes him a longshot.

All of that leaves us with Cena, the golden child. It is a miracle that he hasn't been in the WWE title picture since losing to Alberto Del Rio at Vengeance last October. WWE never goes that long without putting him in a title match.

It's not like Cena has been buried, as he was dealing with The Rock and Brock Lesnar late last year and early this year. Since there is nothing new going on with him, Cena should probably be put in the championship chase.

The problem with assuming that Cena is going to win, as mentioned before, is we have all figured that out. No one looking at this lineup of performers expects anyone but Cena to walk out of the match with a win.

Perhaps McMahon does make special exceptions for someone like Cena. Maybe McMahon doesn't care what happens with the rest of the show, just as long as he is able to get Cena the championship.

Don't put anything past McMahon, though. I think Cena should be champion, just because WWE has shown no faith in actually pushing anyone else as a main-event worthy performer, and the title should start to feel like it means something.

That said, because everyone knows that Cena is going to win, McMahon will look around the creative room as they are tossing out ideas for what should happen on Sunday and realize that everyone knows Cena is the favorite.

I don't know how WWE would be able to justify Cena losing the match after his promo on Monday, but stranger things have happened in this company before.
