Rob Riggle ESPYs 2012: Host Duties Will Be Big Boost to Comedian's Career

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

Rob Riggle is going to kill it while hosting the 2012 ESPY's, and his career will benefit as a result. The veteran comedian is perfect for this gig.

Riggle has been in numerous projects over the years, and while he has been in his share of movies, many of these projects will leave him well-prepared to handle hosting an awards show. Riggle is a stand-up comedian and a former correspondent on The Daily Show

Shining in these roles, it is clear he is a natural in these scripted, yet live settings. Riggle is the master of rattling off absurd jokes in dead-pan fashion. He has a cutting sense of humor and it typically comes across in a more "laughing with you than at you" way that is perfect for an awards show setting.

While this award show has seen its fair share of quality hosts like Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Norm McDonald and last year's host Seth Meyers, Riggle has a chance to not be overshadowed by any of them. In fact, I think he will be the best host the show has ever had.

This isn't just bias talking, either. I'm a big fan of plenty of the previous hosts, but their styles were not as tailor made for this setting as Riggle's.

This will all be a huge boon to his career. Riggle is just really coming into the public consciousness. He is known to fans of The Daily Show, but outside of that he is just another supporting actor.

Hosting this show is going to change Riggle from "that funny guy from that one movie" to "Rob Riggle, who killed it at the ESPY's," and from there, the sky is the limit.

The ESPYs will be held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 11 at 9 p.m. ET and can be seen on ESPN.
