MLB All-Star Game 2012: Players with Best Chance to Take Home MVP Award

Jesse ReedJun 7, 2018

Prince Fielder has a chance to win back-to-back All-Star MVP awards at the 2012 All-Star Game with another strong performance on Tuesday night, July 10 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

It won't be easy, though, as both teams feature elite players—any of whom could come up big when their team needs them the most.

With that in mind, I want to take a look at the four players—two from each team—who have the best chance to win the MVP award in this year's All-Star Game.

Prince Fielder, American League

Wouldn't it be something if Fielder won this thing two times in a row? What would be even more fantastic is that last year he competed for the National League team and this year he's representing the American League.

Fielder's home run totals are a bit down this year. Midway through the season, he's only hit 15 dingers. That hasn't stopped him from producing runs for the Detroit Tigers, though, as Fielder has driven in 63 RBI so far.

What's more, Fielder has a knack for producing at key moments. I won't be surprised in the least to see him come up big at this year's All-Star Game and take home his second straight MVP trophy.

Pablo Sandoval, National League

The Panda has a chance to make a big impact for the National League on Tuesday night.

San Francisco Giants fans know how adept he is at coming up big when the pressure is on. Even though his overall numbers won't impress you, Sandoval is just one of those guys who has a sixth sense for when he needs to step up his game.

Sandoval is my personal favorite to win this award, should the National League come away with the win.

Josh Hamilton, American League

Hamilton destroyed the old record for votes when he received 11,073,744 votes this year, according to MLB.com. It's easy to see why, too. Hamilton is tied for the MLB lead with 27 home runs and leads all batters with 75 RBI.

I look forward to seeing how the National League pitchers approach him. He's clearly the most dangerous hitter currently playing in the majors. If they go at him, he'll make them pay.

Hamilton is my favorite to win this award, should the American League win the game.

Carlos Beltran, National League

Beltran is an old hat at this All-Star thing. This game will be his seventh appearance at the event. The old man is having himself a phenomenal year, posting 20 home runs, 64 RBI and hitting just under .300.

I expect Beltran to have a major impact in this game in a positive way for the National League, and I won't be surprised to see him walk away with the MVP award at the end of the game.
