Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Almost a minute and a half into the first period of tonight's game, I felt as if the Leafs were going to tank again, because of Vesa Toskala.
Eight minutes in, that feeling was all, but confirmed, as I was now just waiting for Pittsburgh to put in the third goal so, that Wilson would finally pull Toskala.
To my surprise, it never happened.
I started watching the second period feeling as if the Leafs were going to surrender two or three more, but instead, they outplayed Pittsburgh the whole period and were rewarded with a Nik Antropov goal, his 18th.
I knew the third was going to be good, because little more than two minutes in, Luke Schenn layed out Sidney Crosby and then Dominic Moore set Blake up for his 20th, which tied the game up.
Nineteen seconds later, Blake scored a beauty of a 21st, once again assisted by Moore to make it 3-2 and they never looked back.
Mitchell, Ponikarovsky and Stajan all chipped in with a goal to give Toronto a 6-2 win on a monumental collapse by Pittsburgh in the third period.
Marc-Andre Fleury looked destined to have one of his greatest games of the season until Blake put in his first and the Leafs just never looked back.
I'm proud to see the Leafs pump in six goals after a dismal Florida road trip, but I also have learned not to get my hopes up after a game like this, especially when your goalie is Vesa Toskala, however, if the Leafs can pull off a win in their next three games to go 4-0 on this home stand, then they will find themselves back in the playoff picture.
What’s also interesting to note is the fact that former captain Mats Sundin is slated to make his return to Toronto on Hockey Day in Canada on February 21 at 7:00 p.m.
I personally hold a vendetta against Sundin for going to Vancouver, as I feel he went for the money, not for a chance at the Cup.
I will admit though that he has stepped up his play as of late and I am looking forward to seeing him play back at the ACC.
I cannot wait to hear the reaction he will likely get, as many Leafs fans feel he betrayed a team that was so good to him for the majority of his career.
