WWE Chatter

This week's Raw was one of the most interesting over the past couple months as the WWE began to build toward Money in the Bank. John Cena announced his intention to enter the Money in the Bank ladder match for the WWE Championship, as did a returning Chris Jericho. Also, the strange storyline between AJ, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Kane continued. Perhaps most surprisingly, Sycho Sid returned and defeated Heath Slater in a squash match.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is Cena's involvement in Money in the Bank a positive?

Cena has never been involved in a Money in the Bank ladder match over the course of his career, but with Big Show announcing that he would be in the match last week, Cena decided to do the same in order to stop the giant from winning. Money in the Bank is generally used to elevate a younger star to the next level, but with Cena, Jericho, Big Show and Kane battling in the WWE Championship version of the match, a veteran is going to grab the briefcase.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

We have no issue with Cena being in the match since he should be doing everything in his power to get a shot at the WWE Championship. Also, his involvement makes the match seem that much more important. Many have said over the past couple years that Money in the Bank has cheapened title runs. If Cena gets the briefcase and cashes it in, though, that won't be the case. The only disappointment is that the match only has four participants with just Jericho being good in ladder matches. Money in the Bank is all about chaos and entertainment, and this match may not deliver.

Bleacher Report Insider Scoop: Latest WWE News and Rumors

Extreme Rising Interview with Matt Hardy

In what was arguably the best interview ever conducted on Ring Rust Radio, former WWE and TNA star Matt Hardy joined the crew to talk about this weekend's Extreme Rising shows in New York and Philadelphia as well as his illustrious career in the business. Hardy wasn't shy when it came to talking about some of the controversy he has endured, including his recent personal problems and the love triangle between himself, Lita and Edge, and it made for a fantastic segment.

Question on Everybody's Mind: How will the ECW crowd receive Hardy?

Hardy is a former ECW Champion, but when he won the title, it was when the WWE resurrected the ECW name as a third brand. Diehard ECW fans don't have many nice things to say about it, so it will be interesting to see what kind of reaction Hardy received. He will be taking on an ECW legend in Jerry Lynn in one of the main events, so Hardy may have to play the role of a heel in order to play off of the crowd's heat.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

Perhaps Hardy never truly competed in ECW, but he and his brother Jeff are considered to be two of the most extreme wrestlers in the history of the business. That alone ensures that he will have plenty of fans cheering him on, but the ECW crowd is a tough nut to crack, so the reaction figures to be mixed.

To Matt's credit, he said in the interview that he doesn't care whether he is booed or cheered as long as he is getting a reaction of some sort. Matt and all of the other guys on the card realize that the first Extreme Reunion event had some major issues, so is sure to go all out against Lynn and that itself should garner him some more fans by the end of the night.

TNA Tidbits

TNA continues to try and take the next step as Impact airs live on Thursdays, and last week's show was good enough to earn a segment on Ring Rust Radio. Austin Aries agreed to vacate the X-Division Championship in exchange for a shot at Bobby Roode and the TNA Heavyweight Championship at Destination X. The caveat is that the X-Division Champion will have the same option every year heading into Destination X. Also , the Bound for Glory series continued with favorite James Storm holding a commanding lead.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is the new X-Division stipulation a good thing?

TNA certainly makes some strange decisions, such as the horrible conclusion to the storyline between Dixie Carter and A.J. Styles, but the company can be innovative as well. Allowing the X-Division Champion to cash in the title for a shot at the Heavyweight Championship proves that TNA isn't averse to good and interesting ideas as well. Aries probably won't beat Roode at Destination X, but just getting a main-event match should be huge for him.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

In a lot of ways, this concept is similar to WWE's Money in the Bank contract. Of course, the Money in the Bank contract can be cashed in at any time, while the X-Division Championship is only good for a pre-determined match, but they aren't that different.

Money in the Bank has been very successful in the WWE in terms of lifting new stars to the main-event scene and TNA is hoping for the same. Aries is a great guy to carry the torch because he is already the best in-ring worker in the company and is a fast-rising star in the business. If this idea leads to Aries becoming a top guy, it will ultimately be looked upon as a positive move.
