Big Ten Football Morning Coffee: Harvey Perlman's Just Goin' It Alone
Rise and shine, friends. Here's what's going down in the Big Ten today.
—Harvey Perlman, the Big Ten representative of the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee seen frowning at right, had a rather forlorn interview with Steven M. Sipple of the Lincoln Journal-Star after his party pooper appearance at the playoff announcement yesterday. Perlman did point out that he didn't expect anything but the four-team model to go through, for whatever it's worth.
—Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison sat down with the Big Ten Network's Tom Dienhart and talked about where his team needs to improve going into 2012. And really, as long as the defense gets a lot out of Will Campbell and there's no complacency from the cornerbacks, that defense is going to be fine. Mattison also really likes converted DE Brennen Beyer as a surprise player, so keep an eye on him.
—Iowa running back recruit Greg Garmon still isn't on campus following his marijuana possession arrest three weeks ago, per The Gazette. Kirk Ferentz told The Gazette that he was waiting to "know really what a judge says the facts are," which means Garmon's fate isn't likely to be known before at least his hearing date of July 18. Garmon had been expected to compete for Iowa's starting running back role.
—RotoWire.com (via Eleven Warriors) has its list of sleepers and busts in college football this season. It's light on the Big Ten overall, but topping the sleepers is one Braxton Miller, which probably bodes well for the sophomore-to-be. Nathan Scheelhaase is listed as a potential bust, but Scheelhaase's problems go way past A.J. Jenkins' departure; it's not even a lock that he'll start over Reilly O'Toole yet.
