Ranking Liverpool's Players at Euro 2012

Tyler HixsonJun 3, 2018

First there were eight. And then there was one.

The elimination of England at the hands of Italy makes Pepe Reina, the backup keeper for Spain, the only Liverpool player left in the tournament.

Too bad he probably won't see the pitch this late in the competition.

Reina, along with Martin Kelly and Stewart Downing won't be on this list since they didn't step on the pitch at all, so here are the rankings for the Liverpool players that made an appearance in these 2012 Euros.

Let's do it.

5. Jordan Henderson

1 of 5

Jordan Henderson came on as a substitute in a few games, including the quarterfinal loss to Italy, but kind of failed to make an impact.

This is probably due to the limited time he had on the pitch.

Good thing he's young; he will have plenty of time to become an England (and Liverpool) star yet.

4. Andy Carroll

2 of 5

Andy Carroll had a decent tournament, considering he only started one game.

He scored the opener against Sweden in a 3-2 thriller and showed some pretty acceptable hold-up play when he was up top for England. He and Danny Welbeck seemed to show good chemistry.

Let's hope the big guy can improve on his form for the Reds next season.

3. Steven Gerrard

3 of 5

Stevie G had a pretty good tournament as England captain, playing his midfield role as many expected: with gusto, determination and pride.

He set up Joleon Lescott's header against France, Andy Carroll's goal against Sweden and buried his penalty past Gianluigi Buffon in the penalty shootout against Italy.

Gerrard can head back to Anfield with confidence knowing that he competently captained an impressive, if not predictable England side.

2. Glen Johnson

4 of 5

Glen Johnson was arguably England's best player at times; he was certainly the most consistent.

His defending helped keep some of the world's best at bay and his forays into the attacking third kept opposing defensed on their collective toes.

Johnson never put his head down and always kept chugging along.

Liverpool's defense is looking mighty scary right now.

1. Daniel Agger

5 of 5

I don't think anyone had Denmark doing as well as they did in this tournament. Yes, they were eliminated in the group stages, but they beat the Netherlands—pre-tournament favorites—and gave Germany and Portugal runs for their money.

Daniel Agger was behind it all.

He was a constant force in the Danish backline, routinely shutting down the likes of Mario Gomez, Robin van Persie and Cristiano Ronaldo like it wasn't even a thang.

He also created offensive opportunities like he does so often for Liverpool, making darting runs down the middle and attacking his defensive counterparts.

Agger was by far the best Liverpool player at this tournament. It's too bad his tournament was cut short.

YNWA and cheers!
