WWE Rumors: Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Randy Orton and Tuesday's Top WWE Buzz

Adam WellsMay 31, 2018

After a week that was designed to write John Laurinaitis off television, at least for now, WWE started to plan for Money In the Bank in three weeks.

The "historic announcement" from John Cena is that he will be in a Money In the Bank match for the first time, and the concept is only former WWE champions can participate in the match. That is a ridiculous concept, as the Money In the Bank used to be about pushing someone new who was on the brink of a title shot but not quite there.

Since Cena hasn't been in the title picture in nearly a year, I guess WWE figured it was time to put the golden child back in the spotlight. Plus, how bad does a ladder match with Cena, Chris Jericho, Kane and Big Show sound?

At least we get more CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, though A.J. seems to be more important than anything involving those two individually.

To show you how important you are, here is today's list of news, rumors and links.

BROCK LESNAR HAS A RETURN DATE

After much speculation, we finally know that Brock Lesnar will officially appear on Raw next week to give Triple H an answer to his SummerSlam challenge. Lesnar hasn't been seen on television since the day after Extreme Rules.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Lesnar has to accept, right?

Our Take: In the contrived world of WWE, where things have to take the craziest possible turns to get where they are going, Lesnar will probably reject the challenge just so Triple H can call him a coward. Eventually he will say yes, though.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Heroic Returns

If Lesnar returns and is the performer he was before he left, I could not care less how WWE tries to bury him. He was the best part of Raw when he was around, and it wasn't particularly close. He just feels different than anyone else in WWE, which is something you can't say about anyone else.

JOHN CENA READY FOR WWE TITLE RUN

Yesterday, we talked about the reports that WWE was tired of not having Cena in the title picture. It appears some plans were changed from the time the original report came out and Raw last night, as it was not believed that Cena would participate in a Money In the Bank match.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is Cena and MITB a good idea?

Our Take: If Cena were in the ring with the usual kinds of participants in this match, he could probably pull it off. Instead, he is only in the ring with Jericho and two other pieces of dead wrestling weight. Kane and Big Show trying to climb a ladder should be hilarious, but it doesn't make for a good match.

Hype Meter: 0 out of 5 Ruined MITB Matches

It's sad that this is what WWE is doing with one of its best gimmicks. Money In the Bank was always a match you could count on for great action from a few mid-card stars trying to get over that hump. Now, we get big, slow guys who couldn't climb a ladder if their life depended on it.

RANDY ORTON'S HONESTY ANGERS WWE

Randy Orton is due to return from suspension in a month. He is not going to be fired, or buried, as some fans were speculating. But his honesty on Twitter does frustrate WWE to no end, apparently. Here is what he said when a fan told him he should return as a heel:

"

“@EricCullum: @RandyOrton So when you come back now will you be a heel because of the suspension? #AgeofOrton #heelorton” We can only Pray

— Randy Orton (@RandyOrton) June 7, 2012"

Question on Everybody's Mind: Why does WWE hate honesty?

Our Take: Because Vince McMahon can't stand the marks thinking anything before he decides to do it. That would probably explain some of the decisions he makes. McMahon thinks about the most logical scenario, then does a complete 180 to laugh in the face of people who think they figured it out.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Heel Turns

It's no secret that Orton was at his best when he was a heel. He has evolved into a good babyface, but his character and mannerisms easily lend themselves to being someone you want to root against.

REY MYSTERIO RETURNING NEXT WEEK?

Despite being eligible to return this week, WWE is holding Rey Mysterio off television until next week's tapings. Like Orton, Mysterio is expected to be pushed upon returning. Unlike Orton, Mysterio has no designs on being a heel.

Question on Everybody's Mind: How will WWE push Mysterio?

Our Take: One scenario could see him enter the SmackDown Money In the Bank match, since it appears WWE is only using four stars per match this year. Other than that, there is really nothing exciting out there for him right now.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 West Coast Pops

Mysterio will be a nice sight for sore eyes. It has been 10 months since he wrestled a match, and even when he had a blown-out knee, he was still putting on really good, occasionally great matches. We need more good wrestling matches in WWE, since we aren't going to get logical stories and build to them.
