Miami Football: In-State Recruits Al Golden and Hurricanes Would Love to Get
Al Golden has already said that he is very interested in roping off the "state of Miami" when it comes down to the recruiting aspect of his job. He has proved he has the sources to do so when they snagged local talent Tracy Howard from the hands of other big-time schools.
According to scout.com, the Hurricanes have seven recruits, four of them coming from Florida.
Here are 10 more Floridians who would help fill up the roster for the future.
*Note: I did not include Ray Lewis III, Jeremy Kerr, Alex Collins and Keith Bryant, as they have already verbally committed to Miami.
Matthew Thomas, OLB
1 of 10Height: 6'4"
Weight: 210 lbs
Scout Position Rating: 5-star
High School: Booker T. Washington High School (Miami, FL)
The sky is the limit for rising star Matthew Thomas out of Miami, FL. He is a very fast linebacker with terrific closing speed for a linebacker.
He is a little skinny at 210 pounds, but makes up for it with his speed. I honestly can see him play a safety position at the next level.
Thomas is primarily used at the middle linebacker position, but will most likely be moved to the outside to utilize his quickness.
It would be huge to snag this 5-star recruit, considering Miami will be without the services of Ramon Buchanan next season.
Laremy Tunsil, OL
2 of 10Height: 6'6"
Weight: 295 lbs
Scout Position Rating: 5-star
High School: Columbia High School-South (Lake City, FL)
For the last three years the Miami offensive line was supposed to be the bread-and-butter position for the Hurricanes. Instead, it has been a pretty big disappointment.
Adding 5-star recruit Laremy Tunsil could change things dramatically next season. Tunsil is a tremendous offensive tackle with a great body and good, quick feet.
Vernon Hargreaves III, CB
3 of 10Height: 5'11"
Weight: 185 lbs
Scout Position Rating: 5-star
High School: Wharton High School (Tampa, FL)
If there was one position that I worry about year-in and year-out, it's the cornerback position. Luckily for Miami, they snagged 5-star recruit Tracy Howard this year, and adding scout.com's No. 1 cornerback next year would be even a bigger milestone for the Hurricanes.
Vernon Hargreaves is a tremendously talented cornerback with great speed and amazing coverage ability, much like Howard was in high school.
Can you imagine both Howard and Hargreaves at corner next year?
Derrick Henry, RB
4 of 10Height: 6'3"
Weight: 241 lbs
Scout Position Rating: 5-star
High School: Yulee High School (Yulee, FL)
I understand that the Hurricanes expect great things this year from true freshman Duke Johnson, but there is no way at all that they shouldn't do anything in their power to keep Derrick Henry in Florida.
Henry is a freak at running back, standing at 6'3" and weighing 241 pounds with 4.5 40-yard dash speed. He breaks tackles at will, and when he gets into the open field, he has the ability to take it to the house.
Demarcus Walker, DE
5 of 10Height: 6'4"
Weight: 279 lbs
Scout Position Rating: 4-star
High School: Sandalwood High School (Jacksonville, FL)
There would be nothing better for Miami than to add another great defensive end to the roster playing opposite Anthony Chickillo.
The highly recruited Demarcus Walker would fit nicely, with his amazing athleticism and superior quickness.
Jaynard Bostwick, DT
6 of 10Height: 6'4"
Weight: 270 lbs
Scout Position Rating: 4-star
High School: St. Lucie West Centennial High School (Port Saint Lucie, FL)
The defensive tackle position at Miami is questionably one of the most shallow positions on the team.
Snatching monster tackle Jaynard Bostwick will help them correct that problem. He is a huge defensive tackle with great hands and amazing strength.
Bostwick would be an immediate impact for next season.
Jayron Kearse, OLB/ATH/WR
7 of 10Height: 6'4"
Weight: 205 lbs
Scout Position Rating: 4-star
High School: South Ft Myers High School (Ft. Myers, FL)
In January of this year, Jayron Kearse de-committed from Auburn to join the Miami Hurricanes. Unfortunately, that didn't last long, as Kearse de-committed from Miami earlier this month.
The good news is that Miami is still on his list of schools he wants to play for next season, but obviously whatever he says now isn't very promising.
Miami could use the multi-talented athlete who plays both receiver and defensive back at Ft. Myers High School. Scout.com believes that Kearse would be best at the outside position, another spot Miami will need to add depth to next season.
Jamal Carter, S
8 of 10Height: 6'1"
Weight: 185 lbs
Scout Position Rating: 4-star
High School: Miami Southridge High School (Miami, FL)
This is the last season for safety starters Ray-Ray Armstrong and Vaughn Telemaque, meaning Miami will need to add some depth after the 2012 season.
Adding 4-star Deon Bush this year will be a tremendous help, but the experience of the remaining safeties will be a cause for concern.
Snagging Jamal Carter would be a huge acquisition for the Hurricanes if they are able to steal him from Auburn, Florida, LSU and Florida State.
I am hoping that the opportunity to compete for a starting job and being from Miami will influence him to become a Hurricane.
Stacy Coley, WR
9 of 10Height: 6'1"
Weight: 175 lbs
Scout Position Rating: 4-star
High School: Northeast High School (Oakland Park, FL)
If there is one question for the 2012 Hurricanes, it's who is going to be the Hurricanes deep threat at receiver?
Allen Hurns is primarily a possession receiver, while Phillip Dorsett and Rashawn Scott have the ability to go deep but are better suited for short passes as well.
That is where Stacy Coley could come in handy next year. Coley is a tremendous deep threat receiver with great speed and good body control.
Isaiah Jones, WR
10 of 10Height: 6'4"
Weight: 200 lbs
Scout Position Rating: 4-star
High School: Milton High School (Milton, FL)
When the Hurricanes lost Tommy Streeter to the NFL last season, not only did Miami lose their deep threat, but they lost their tallest receiver.
Isaiah Jones, standing 6'4" and 200 pounds as a junior, could immensely help the current Hurricanes roster and give them a legitimate deep threat for the 2013 season.
Jones is definitely a game changer, as you can see in the video above. He has great size and is a good playmaker.
