WWE: 7 Future Rivalries for John Cena
John Cena is the WWE's top star, and as such, he's feuded with most of the other top stars in the company.
He's had rivalries with Randy Orton, The Big Show, Sheamus and CM Punk, among others, and thus, there aren't very many fresh feuds we want to see from "The Champ."
Or are there?
Even though Cena's been at the top of the WWE for a while, there are plenty of other stars who are approaching the top or are just getting there that would make great rivals for one of the biggest stars in wrestling history.
Here are seven major future rivalries for John Cena.
7. Mark Henry
1 of 7Mark Henry is currently recovering and rehabbing after having shoulder surgery earlier this year, and no one seems to know what his WWE future holds.
But if he were to come back as a monster heel, as he was portrayed throughout most of 2011, I'd love to see him feud with John Cena.
I know a lot of you probably think that Henry vs. Cena would suck as far as the wrestling goes, but these two actually have some great chemistry in the ring together.
They proved that when they faced off on Raw earlier this year, and Henry proved with his WWE Championship matches against CM Punk that he can really deliver when working with the right opponent.
We've seen the "Cena vs. the unstoppable monster" feud numerous times before, but with Tensai and Big Show, it got boring.
With Henry? I was intrigued and entertained.
If a fresh feud doesn't present itself for Cena in the near future, I wouldn't be shocked to see a returning heel Henry make "The Champ" his primary target.
6. Wade Barrett
2 of 7When Wade Barrett debuted as the leader of The Nexus in 2010, his first major feud was with none other than John Cena.
I had really high expectations for that feud at first, but of course, it didn't take all that long for the creative team to screw it up.
Fast-forward to 2012, and it's time for a redo.
Barrett has also feuded with Randy Orton twice, but the first one didn't go over so well, because the booking made it seem like Barrett had no chance of actually winning the WWE Championship.
But when Barrett and Orton feuded again more than a year later, it was a much better feud, partly because of Barrett's improvements and partly because of the booking.
I could see something similar happening with Cena and Barrett.
Barrett is more seasoned and flying solo now, so perhaps it's time to see if he and Cena can successfully feud without all The Nexus' shenanigans going on simultaneously.
5. Chris Jericho
3 of 7There is talk that Chris Jericho will be returning to the WWE as a baby face on tonight's Raw, per F4WOnline (h/t WrestlingInc.com).
Now, I like Y2J as much as the next guy, but I like him a lot more as a heel.
There is certainly a lack of top baby faces in the WWE right now, but I don't see why you would turn Jericho face when he's got some potentially great feuds lined up as a heel.
Like one with John Cena.
We've obviously seen Jericho and Cena feud before, but the last time that happened was way back in 2008.
So, why not bring back Jericho as a heel and have him feud with Cena?
It doesn't look like Cena has a Money in the Bank feud just lined up and waiting for him, so if I'm the WWE, I make sure that Y2J's return feud is with "The Champ."
4. Cody Rhodes
4 of 7Cody Rhodes and John Cena have a lot of history together, but things have drastically changed since they last crossed paths.
Rhodes is no longer part of Legacy, he is no longer a henchman for Randy Orton, and he is no longer "Dashing."
He is one of the very best and brightest young stars in the WWE, and he's been teetering on the edge of the main event picture for the better part of a year.
He needs that one thing to push him over the edge. He needs a feud with Cena.
While many wrestling fans can see that Rhodes is extremely talented, he's yet to feud with the likes of CM Punk, Sheamus and Cena.
That needs to change, and it needs to change when Rhodes begins a feud with Cena in the not-so-distant future.
I don't know about you, but I think that's greatness just waiting to happen.
3. Dolph Ziggler
5 of 7Dolph Ziggler might be the Internet's favorite WWE star at the moment, and I can't blame it.
He's such an amazing all-around talent—one who, until recently, was wasting away in the midcard and tag team title scenes.
I think the vast majority of us can agree that Ziggler deserves better than that, and that—like his recent little rivalry with Sheamus—"better than that" includes staying in the main event picture.
He's had CM Punk and Sheamus. Now, it's time to give him John Cena.
Cena and Ziggler have had a handful of really good TV bouts over the years, and much to the surprise of, well, no one, they've developed some great chemistry along the way. Yet, they've never actually feuded.
It's surprising that, given how long both men have been around, they haven't at least had a PPV match or two, but all that does is a make a potential match/feud between the two even fresher.
2. The Undertaker
6 of 7Everything that's happened over the last five or so years seems to be indirectly leading to an epic WrestleMania match and feud between The Undertaker and John Cena.
Cena is the guy. He is the face of the WWE and its biggest baby face. But Undertaker's far from a slouch.
He's been tearing the house down at WrestleMania for the last five-plus years. He's stretched his incredibly impressive Mania streak to 20-0, and he's defeated just about everyone who's gotten in his way.
One guy who hasn't gotten in his way, however, is Cena.
You could make a case that, part-timers included, Cena and Undertaker are the two biggest stars in the WWE, and yet, they've largely stayed away from each other since about 2004.
We may never see these two feud again, but for the sake of the WWE and myself, I hope we do.
It's not going to get much better than "The Champ" vs. "The Phenom."
1. Daniel Bryan
7 of 7A year ago, Daniel Bryan's WWE career prospects—although certainly not dead—didn't look all that great.
But fast-forward to today, and he is arguably the hottest act in all of professional wrestling.
Bryan's "Yes!" chants are insanely over, his recent matches have been phenomenal (as expected), and despite technically being a heel, he gets pops that are usually reserved for top faces.
If there is ever going to be a time to capitalize on Bryan, it's now.
And how do you do that? By putting him in a feud with John Cena.
Putting Bryan against Cena would give us an incredibly interesting dynamic between two guys who, for much different reasons, get mixed reactions every time they enter an arena.
You'd have Cena, the ultimate baby face who gets booed, taking on Bryan, the ultimate heel who gets cheered.
The feud itself could be phenomenal for that very reason, and the matches likely would be too.
Please make this feud happen, WWE, especially before it loses some of its luster.
