The Chicago Bulls "UnforgetaBULL"Season

Brian MistroFeb 12, 2009

I don't know if it is the part of the country I live in, which is North Dakota, or if 13-years ago is too long ago to remember. But it seems as though everyone has forgotten about the most impressive record in professional sports history.

The 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls posted a 72-10 record that has remained untouched and unchallenged for over a decade. With the Lakers, Cavaliers, and Celtics all having tremendous years, those teams still do not compare to the well-oiled machine that was Phil Jackson's Bulls.

I know the 1972 Miami Dolphins went undefeated. The Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners compiled 116 wins in one season, but neither of them even won the World Series, so I automatically can them.

The Dolphins did the unthinkable and wiped the floor with everyone else, and the Patriots almost topped them.

But to me, football is a different sport, where nine times out of 10 the better teams win. It is hard to be streaky or have an off-game when there is a week to prepare for your opponent.

The Bulls played 82 games and would have won 73, if Reggie Miller didn't pull off some late-game heroics in the second-to-last game of the season.

Basketball is streaky. Players can have an off-night more frequently. There are more games, which means consistency is much more difficult. Ask anyone that plays basketball.

The Kobe Bryant and LeBron James saga will continue for years, and the Celtics' team unity is untouched by today's standards.

I still don't think they have a snowball's chance in the desert to catch the Bulls.

The Lakers would have to win a record 30-straight just to tie the Bulls. The Cavaliers already have 11 losses as of today.

Like I said, maybe being shunned off from the rest of the world living in North Dakota, I don't hear enough to even be writing this.

But for some reason everyone is aboard the Kobe and LeBron train, and their amazing records this year. But at this point in 1996, the Bulls only had six losses.

Their record is "untouchaBULL" and should go down as the most impressive record to date in all of the four major sports
