Georgia Football: Uga Wedding Cake Proves Georgia Tech Rivalry Never Sleeps
The Georgia vs. Georgia Tech rivalry is commonly known as "clean, old-fashioned hate."
A wedding cake (hopefully, a groom's cake) that was posted on LostLettermen.com on Sunday tests the accuracy of that moniker.
The cake is a depiction of Uga, Georgia's English bulldog mascot, as roadkill. The cake is complete with tire marks, organs splattered on the ground and the text, "To Hell with Georgia."
I'm all for creative college football pageantry in weddings (as long as they aren't on fall Saturdays), but this one is just a bit over the line.
This cake isn't in the spirit of any rivalry, particularly one that bills itself as "clean, old-fashioned hate."
First of all, it isn't clean. The thought of bloody roadkill isn't the most sanitary way to celebrate the love between a man and a woman.
It most certainly isn't "old-fashioned." I'm not sure how Bobby Ross and Vince Dooley would feel about this display, but it's certainly not in the true spirit of the rivalry.
It does, however, show an extreme level of "hate."
It may not be the most prominent rivalry in the country, but this image of Uga as roadkill certainly pushes the limits of what is, or isn't, appropriate.
Personally, I would like to know how the conversation started between husband and wife.
"Hey honey, I have this great idea. For my groom's cake, we are going to kill Uga and have his organs on the table for all of our guests to enjoy."
Just, wow.
