WWE No Way Out 2012: Pay-Per-View Fails to Impress

Alex HallJun 18, 2012

After all the build up that the WWE promotion machine put into the return of the No Way Out pay-per-view event, more fans were left yawning than cheering when the event concluded.

No upsets occurred, none of the heels emerged victorious and Ryback beat up two guys whose names I forget once again.

The only real highlights of the night came in the form of the WWE Championship triple threat and Intercontinental title bouts. Everything else turned out exactly how anyone would have expected.

No titles changed hands as Punk, Layla and Christian retained, and Cena, once again, overcame the odds to defeat the Big Show. It wouldn't have taken a crystal ball to have predicted those outcomes.

Considering the WWE posterboy lost at the last pay-per-view, there was no way he was going to lose a second straight. His victory marked the end of John Laurinaitis' run as general manager of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown!, respectively.

The love triangle surrounding AJ, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Kane only progressed as the diva's involvement lead to a Punk victory. I'd sum the rest of the event up, but I think you get the idea.

No Way Out used to be one of the WWE's best pay-per-views as it was the final one leading up to WrestleMania for many years. It was the host of the Elimination Chamber match for as long as I can remember, and last night marked an embarrassing chapter in its history.

It wasn't just one or two matches that were predictable; the whole darn night could have been forecasted by anyone who picked the favorites in each fixture. No storylines really ended or progressed a great deal, and there were no real twists beside Show's former victims showing up to keep the giant in the steel cage.

With a dud main event at Over the Limit, I expected WWE to come out and try to get the best out of Cena and the Big Show, only to see what everyone feared they were going to witness. The world's largest athlete knocked the former WWE champion around before Cena's big comeback lead to another victory for the former Springfield College football player.

Another month, another mediocre pay-per-view for the WWE.
