College World Series 2012 Schedule: Analyzing the Winner's Bracket

Timothy RappJun 5, 2018

Three of the four teams in the winner's bracket at the College World Series haven't lost a game in the tournament thus far.

The winner's bracket includes the back-to-back college baseball champions.

Both games include inter-conference clashes.

If you aren't pumped for some winner's bracket action, you either don't have a pulse or you have an odd habit of skipping the first three paragraphs of anything you read. Let's take a closer look at the these matchups and offer predictions in each game, along with providing the CWS schedule moving forward.

UCLA vs. Arizona: Sunday, June 17th at 9:00 p.m. ET

It doesn't get much better than a battle between Pac-12 co-champs UCLA and Arizona.

Neither teams has dropped a game yet in this tournament, and this contest offers a fascinating clash between Arizona's potent lineup and UCLA's excellent pitching. The lowest offensive output that the Wildcats have managed has been five runs, while the Bruins have kept opponents to two runs or less in every game but one.

In fact, the Bruins have only allowed 10 runs in six tournament games, while Arizona has bashed 65 runs in its six games.

UCLA comes into this tournament as the second overall seed and as winners of the season series, two-games-to-one, so they have to be considered the slight favorites in this one. Look for UCLA to sneak by in a competitive contest.

Prediction: UCLA wins, 4-3.

Arkansas vs. South Carolina: Monday, June 18th at 9:00 p.m. ET

South Carolina has now won 22 straight tournament games, and it took two of three against Arkansas in the season series between the two schools.

Bet against the two-time defending champions at your own peril.

Still, Arkansas is not to be taken lightly. The Razorbacks rely on excellent pitching—they've allowed an average of three runs per game in the tournament—and survived No. 1 seeds in Rice and Baylor en route to the CWS.

Of course, the Gamecocks have only allowed 11 runs in this tournament and look to have hit their stride. In a tight game, look for South Carolina to make it 23 games in a row.

Prediction: South Carolina wins, 2-1
